What do you guys do about rattling side cases (K100)? Surely you have some tricks.

Cell foam gasket....find one with closed cells (marine use) that doesn't suck water.

I also picked up some thin weather stripping at home despot and it worked pretty well. I wrapped the z mounts with electrical tape in a couple places to keep the case from moving on the mount. Def helped a ton.

I used split tube foam pipe insulation. Closed cell, dark grey and quick !

My latches are loose and I can't rely on them to hold the case closed. Any ideas?

There are three types of cases on Bricks. Type one handle folded flat downwards and had small suitcase type keys. Type two handles folded 90 Deg inwards and the locks faced inwards. Type three handle folded 90 Deg inwards the locks faced outwards and they had bump rubbers on the front corner and along the bottom. Due to some people retro fitting tragkorbs from other years, the year of the motorcycle is inconclusive.What type do you have? :dunno

Determine why they are loose. Are the latches hinging open or are the rivets so loose that the entire assembly wobbles enough to allow the hooks to lifting off their catches.
Post a photo of the case showing the latch. Does the lock face inward or outward?

The MAXBMW parts fiche categorizes latches stocked at MAX as 02/88 or later so it can lead to an assumption that the bike's year is important rather than the case's year.
A photo is needed here, and a more thorough description of the problem.

Laitch, I think Martin is correct about not counting on year. I have a '92RS and '94 K75S with type 3 cases, and a '94 RT with type 2. The cases on the RT were keyed to match the rest of the bike.

Latches don't have locks. To be fair, one of the hinges needs to be replaced (might as well do the 2 of them since the other is likely to go too) and the gasket looks dry rotted. I've seen other people suggest using weather stripping cut narrow in order to fit.

If you want I can post a link to an eBay vendor who sells a neoprene cord that works great and is a lot cheaper than BMW rubber.

You have Type one tragkorbs. It might be possible to adapt other catches as other members have done, but first replace the gasket and see if that tightens it up. It might also be possible to tighten them up by re-riveting them .

These latches do have locks. Lift the rectangular tab on the latch to access the lock.

Just looked and the source I had on eBay doesn't have the 5mm neoprene foam cord I purchased from them in the past.

You could do a search on eBay, but the only vendor I found is in the U.K. and the shipping makes the price higher than BMW. Unless you are doing four or more cases, you might as well let BMW hose you.

In OZ we have a speciality shop called Clark Rubber which deals in all things rubber, neoprene, foam. The US must have something similar, worth a try. And have you discovered your locks yet?

Maybe information in this link will help you, SmilingRide. That depends upon the lock cores being similar in appearance.

Type one have the small suitcase type key. I can recall a inmate chasing one key to complete a full set, I currently can't locate the post. Another inmate may know. It would not be hard for a good locksmith to find a matching key or make one. I used to know a old time locksmith who would let you go through his massive key collection until you found the one that fitted, and then copy it. I was seventeen at the time and I don't think he would be still around. :dunno
