93 K75 "Fist of Fury"
« on: September 12, 2016, 04:03:38 PM »
Hello fellow flying brickers,

I'm fresh to this forum and wish I had known about it a couple of years ago. Better late than never I suppose. I've been checking out all of these resto, resto-mod, and full cafe conversion projects on the Project K-Bikes section and I can't get enough of it. The level of details on the work and knowledge of K-Bikes are unparalleled. This global community is so friendly, open, and eager to help. I also love all of the witty comments.

I purchased this very clean 93 K75 (22k miles) on a whim from a co-worker who had too many bikes in his garage. This is after not riding for 20+ yrs (4 knee surgeries, marriage, 3 kids..blah, blah, blah). At first, the bike really didn't appeal to me given that I was a former crotch rocket rider (Ninja/CBR). So I googled images of k-bikes and saw a few cafe style conversions and I was sold on it. I took the bike home (without consulting with the wife first, figuring I'd beg for forgiveness later). I told her I was going to covert it and sell it for a profit. Well, 2 yrs and thousand of dollars later and the bike is still in my garage and I'm being reminded of my deceit ever so often. I love this bike to death as it has been part of me for the past 2 yrs. I've made so many changes to it that my wife said I have ADD design. I named it after my fav Bruce Lee movie. I figured every bike needs a badass name.

I was a little apprehensive on posting this at first since there's so many good and professional level builds on this forum. I'm not a builder or a mechanic. Just a trial and error kind of guy that take the plunge into things. My bike is a little rough around the edges and is not as totally clean as some of these other projects. My only goal in posting this is to solicit feedback/critique (good and bad) from this respected community. I have thick skin, so no worries!

Thank you for your time in reading this (perhaps too wordy) and for your comments.

Thanks for showing your bike's evolution, duckytran. I like the idea of your riding it through it's changes. I think a few people might want more info about the fuel cap mod.

Thank you all for your kind words. When I first started this project, no one was selling aftermarket parts for K-Bikes. Seems like they're getting chopped up left and right now. A few shops, mainly in EU, are now selling nice parts. BSK Speedworks, Unit Garage, and Cafe4Racers to name a few. I got my gas cap from Z17 Customs out of Moscow. I saw it on Instagram and contacted them. They don't sell parts online, but will sell you one directly.

Laitch,
I had you in mind when I wrote that part about loving all the witty comments :yes :2thumbup:

One of the nicer conversions :bmwsmile.  I like it...the only part that made me wince was the 22k odo.  The thing that is important is that you care for the bike.  PS, wife says similar things here :hehehe, oh, and the occasional midlife crisis comment!

Thanks Jack. My kids have been brainwashed and constantly threaten to sell my bike on eBay lol. Too much time and $ spent on it they claimed. Oh yea, the mid life crisis accusation is always lurking.

Yours is a cafe done correctly. It has a very clean and finished look instead of the half hearted efforts one generally sees. A great conversion and a nice looking machine.

Thank you Mr. Kryder  :bmwsmile.

Herseyb,
That's not a bad idea! However, I may have to pay someone to take my kids. With 3 of them, it may be a costly transaction.

Kind sir, you are too modest regarding your skills! You have one of the cleanest, most professional K-Bike's to grace these pages. Excellent work! You are teasing us by leaving out the details behind multiple changes you have implemented.........I would like to hear more!

You're too kind Mr. TrueAce. I'll try to add more color to this thread.

Nice job!  The radiator trim is a nice touch and the side bag is brilliant!

Thanks Mr. Mighty Gryphon. Luckily, I have a cousin who is a professional tailor. This is the first bag he ever made and it came out nicely. The material I actually used is convertible top vinyl fabric. It's durable and weather proof. I prefer not wear a big back pack when riding, so I needed a place to hold insurance paper, a few tools, and nick knacks.

I avoid riding at night, so I re-purpose these fork reflector pieces to add a little custom touch to the bike. One set is with leather and the other with aluminum. Both were laser engraved. I'm on the fence as to which one better match the bike aesthetic. Let me know what you think.

Both cool :bmwsmile.  Aluminum is definitely "louder".  It appears to me that the rest of the bike is "under-stated" modification.  Thus, I would choose the reflector.  I doubt BMW would approve the aluminum :hehehe
