On a somewhat similar note, yesterday I had the opportunity to overtake a Hardley rider with ape hangers and highway pegs that were so high and wide he looked like he was waiting for a gynecologist.

Fixing a flat tire with mushroom plugs instead of rubber cement and sticky strings.

It was clearly photoshopped but funny nonetheless. I have seen Road Glides and UltraClassics with ape hangers. Having had an Ultra I can't imagine the pain, time and cost it takes to pull that fairing off to do it. It must cost at least 5K Harley T-shirts based on daily market price.

After careful research, I found that the owners of the ape hanger bars distribution companies, in order to promote shoulder separations and bi-lateral amputations, are the entire American Orthopedic Surgeons Association.

If that's accurate, the up-side is that after a slide their fibers impart a smooth tone to aging skin. That's why I wear them anyway.

I will start with the first two.
15. Filtering. Stupidest thing you can do on two wheels.

So are you saying that if you hit a traffic jam, backed up as far as the eye could see, you'd just sit there even if the gap between vehicles allowed you to use your width advantage.

It wouldn't bother me, but I'm not special.

As a rider from the UK I was warned by my instructor that if there was an opportunity to filter safely during my bike test and I didn't do it I would fail.

Filtering is the only logical thing to do on a bike in traffic, that is why lots of us got into bikes in the first place.  I refuse to sit in a traffic jam if I can safely filter.  I mean over there in the US you have lanes wider than the entire freeway here in CR - why not make filtering legal in all states like it is in CA?

Well since where I live 95% of the roads are single lane in either direction technically I am overtaking...

Sliding down the right to get by two miles of bumpers, multiple times coming South from Norfolk, the only "blocks" I got were a few times of semi's straddling the shoulder way ahead, radioed by their Brother Truckers. I ain't gonna sit on a K in 96 degrees in traffic. We'll talk about "legal" later.

From what I've watched on YouTube, undertaking is one outcome of filtration, too.

In SoCal, where distances are measured in time, not miles, we could cut our commutes in half by lane splitting.  I didn't mind going 10-20 mph faster than the traffic, but some whackjobs went FWO, zilch nada zero zip room for error.     I guess we're all crazy, it's just a matter of degrees.

Lane filtering was only legalised this year in QLD. For the first 6 months car drivers took exception to this, and tried to cut you off block you and drag you off at the lights. As knowledge that it was now legal filtered down most now accept it and will try and give you room. But unfortunately there are still a few idiots around, but even they seem to be  disappearing with time. However you still need to keep your wits about you and be very observant when filtering.

Most car drivers here in NZ will move over to let you through when nose to tail slow moving.A low differential speed helps convey some respect for each other's paint work.
Legal,Yeh,I'll talk about that later too.
