Me!  started racing sailboats in the 70's.  the technology in the AC's is just wild!!!!  crazy fast.

unreal isn't it.
those out rigger foils must have some HUGE stresses on them.
just hope the wind plays its part lol

it's a shame there isn't a few more challengers in the mix.

if I were a billionaire I would lining up with them lol ..... dreamssss....

I've watched some of the AC racing. Felt bad for the Kiwis who were wiping the Brits and then the wind died so race was cancelled. Well, also felt bad for the Brits who lost their speed and so came down off foils, and once they were down, couldn't do anything.

Actually watching the Vendee Globe right now. Those guys (and ladies) are nuts.

a bit more wind today with Ineos UK Vs Luna rossa
big wind shift causing re start

good to see the UK team seem to have ironed out some gremlins they had during the christmas cup races.

nice weather here in NZ and luckily co vid free, touch wood.
no co vid cases in the community with about 70 x people currently in isolation motels caught by testing at the borders

America magic flip it at last mark giving the win to the Italians.

there are some purists that say these new boats "aren't sailing"  :nono2:  and it is more of a design / technology race.
but try and tell me that race wasn't exciting.

good to see that all challengers are making a good fist of it.

that was a scary capsize!  amazing nobody hurt.
very cool the multi-team effort to save the boat.

the damage photos tomorrow when the get the boat out of the water should be interesting.  wonder if it will be fixable?

I hope it is repairable. they do have a 2nd boat here but it will be extraordinary if they get something on the water for next weekends racing.

I would imagine all teams will be pitching in with plenty of help.

so surreal to watch a big boat like that almost completely airborne.

Dean Barker continues his Americas cup curse.

we won't mention his nationality......

watch crash here

possible cause of incident was the crew did not ease the leeward running backstay after the tack.  the main went up against the stay when they tried to bear off.   ouch.

it is nice to see a sport where all the opposing teams pile on to help a team when it is down.

What a disaster for them!  Didn't release the running backstay it seems.

Crash is at 2:46.

As an ex-sailing racer, the runner was usually on our boat released before initiating the turn. But we weren't on flying boats.
