Feel free to criticize my beemer project
« on: May 03, 2013, 12:38:14 AM »
I just posted an "ugly" link talking about how I feel about the r1200c. Some of you mentioned that the bricks aren't much of eye candy to begin with. Anyhow, here is my beemer. Feel free to criticize or insult. I'll take it like a man... gulp.

The p.o. had this bike in awful shape. Not easily scene in the middle picture. Black painted over factory red with chips of paint exposing the red coat beneath. The fairing was a mess and held up with mismatched screws. Both mirrors and their casing was cracked to hell. Don't even get me started on that 80's looking square headlight! Scrapes all over the place. Torn seat. I decided to take it to the next level... a nice ratty rod project. I took a sander to the tank and both fenders. When all the coats of paint were sanded away, I rattle canned it all flat black. I used a satin lacquer to protect the paint's finish. I got black and white emblems to match. Cut four inches off the bottom front fender. Carbon fiber decals run along the rear fender side. Flat black stebel nautilus air horn sits under the (extremely bright) dual headlights. One inch signals sit on the front forks. Not happy about the oem mirrors, but I found nothing else to be compatible. The lower profile bags work better for me. Let me know what y'all think...

No issues with it. You made it your own and it came out good.
What did the head light set up come off?

Only thing I'd consider is finding the radiator shroud off a Standard to hide all the plumbing and fill the gap on the tank.

Is it Plasti Dip'd?  How did you get the matt black finish?  I like it.

Sorry for the delay. I used flat black automotive paint which I bought from Autozone, and then used a satin lacquer by Minwax that I bought from Home Depot. The lacquer gives it a smooth texture as opposed to how spray paint alone would feel. Water drops also bead right off. I did a minimum of three coats each.

The bags look a little "Harley-esque" to me but really like the look otherwise.

Looks like your oil level is nice and high  :2thumbup:

Since you have the air intake ducting out and open, have you considered doing putting a bigger opening on the end?

Digging the headlights  :yes

Very nice I love the flat paint collors.  Should paint the hard cases the same, put them back on.

Looks great! Mine is heading the same direction.

I have those same headlights, or at least they look the same. Mine, frankly, suck in the "illuminate the road" department.
