Back in the Saddle 1985 K100 RT
« on: October 26, 2014, 09:44:43 PM »
Back on a bike after a 10 year hiatus. Fathered 3 kids in the meantime. They old enough now that I can start sneaking some rides. Bought a BMW Grey 1985 K100 RT from a fellow in town which I now understand was given the LT treatment: More upright windshield, radio... Found the K100-Forum.com first but having installed Tapatalk I came across the Motorbrickers :)

Learned how to ride on 78 Yamaha 650xs. The more I ride and learn about the K100 the more I think this will be the last bike I own.

I'm not as mechanical as most and my time is limited but I've been working with computers for 30 years now so I'm very at home in the Forum. Looking forward to learning and doing. That being said I'd rather be riding!

Nice looking bike. Welcome to the forum.

I think the radio was an option in 85 and not sure they used the LT designation in 85 but could be wrong. Changing windscreen was pretty Common. A later model Power windscreen will bolt right on. The main part of the fairing was pretty well identical till 98 when the 1200's came out.

Personally I'm about to yank the radio to get the glovebox back and go to Bluetooth in the helmet. Can't really hear the radio with a full face over 45mph.

I local club member called it the 'LT treatment',  in that it was done by PO to emulate an LT. I was thinking I'd replace the cassette radio with a bluetooth receiver. Something about non functioning speakers really irks me. But you've got a great point that money is better spent inside the helmet.
