Re: Parts Guidance - Radiator
« Reply #8 on: June 02, 2020, 04:35:08 AM »
Hi

I'm in the market for a new radiator and was hoping for some feedback On some common aluminum aftermarket ones that can be found eBay.

https://www.eBay.co.UK/item/For-Bmw-K100-Rt-Rs-Aluminum-Radiator-1984-1990-New-86-87-88-89-90-BLACK/274304128995?hash=item3fddccd7e3:g:gxIAAOSw9fleho8p

Has anyone purchased, used and or seen these? Are they worthy? I'm always hesitant buying non branded stuff and don't want to waste my time fitting junk.

I'm reluctant to repair since the current one is tatty and don't mind buying new if I can get another 37yrs out of it.

Comments appreciated

Cheers

Duncan

Hi J O,

2nd time lucky

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminum-Radiator-For-Bmw-K100-Rt-Rs-1985-1990-New-86-87-88-89-90-BLACK/223959949218?_trkparms=aid%3D1110001%26algo%3DSPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20191002094254%26meid%3D19e955f15dd64d00be8bec2e62bcffcd%26pid%3D100892%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D274304128995%26itm%3D223959949218%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2332490&_trksid=p2332490.c100892.m5207

Description:

For Bmw K100 Rt/Rs Aluminum Radiator 1984-1990 New 86 87 88 89 90 BLACK

I've check over the foruma a few times now and as of yet not found anything on these specific ones which is surprising as there seems to be a few online in black or raw aluminium.

There is some discussion on the bsk type but that is another league and price bracket but at a glance look similar..

Ill do some more perusing, I'm aware there is lots of useful stuff  buried away here I'll keep looking. Thanks for the help.

Cheers

Dunc

It will be difficult to determine the source of the specific radiators in that link. Through the years—or months—an eBay seller could source a specific model of radiator from different manufacturers, so the quality of what one person buys from a seller might differ from what another person buys later from the same seller.

Have you looked at a used radiator?  I would check the bike breakers for a used one.  There should be a few good ones out there for a reasonable price since radiators usually hold up pretty well if the coolant is changed once in a while.

A good flush inside and out and it should be good for at least as long as you will own the bike.  The nice thing about a used OEM radiator is that you know for sure it's going to fit without a lot of hassle.

A bloke on the K100-forum installed said Chi-com radiator to find the radiator shroud fairing and consequentially rest of the fairing does not fit together properly.
The squared off corners on the Chi-com radiator left the bloke retro-fitting his moto's fairing to hopefully envelope that Chi-com fail.
If your 1983 Bitzer is stock with fairings you have been warned.

Next time start your own thread like 'Ebay Chi-com Radiator Should or Shouldn't I ...'

great thankyou for the comments all noted. I'll stick to a 2nd hand one and wait for a good one to come up/. The bike has no shroud or fairing but it's nice to have the option to stick one on down the road. Noted re thread location also. Cheers
