Cyclone Debbie.
« on: March 29, 2017, 08:16:56 PM »

Northern Queensland has been flattened by cyclone Debbie. Hope northern Bricksters and anybody up there have come out OK. The aftermath of the storm has now hit Brisbane over 8" rain expected in the next 24 hours, more for next couple of days. Schools have been closed all the way down to NSW border and people told not to go to work unless absolutely necessary. I went into work this morning early and rang the Queensland manager to see what was going on, and whether they wanted me to open or not. Told my decision, so no work today. We are reasonably high up but our backyard does flood, but so far has stopped about a foot short of the house. I have the mattock and shovel handy for a bit of ditch digging. Eldest daughter gets cut off by flooding, her partner is trying to get there before it happens, he went to work  but has now been sent home. Might be a good day to do some maintenance in the garage. Due to the heavy rain internet keeps on going down.
Regards a soggy Martin.

Martin, hope you and the rest of the folks in Oz weather this storm.   If I have my choice I will take 2 meters of snow before 20 cm of wind driven rain every time.

And keep your ammo dry...

Wasn't to bad during the day, coping a bit of a battering at the moment. We keep loosing power and the internet, still this is mild compared to what they copped up north. The worst is supposed to hit at 11 pm tonight. I have put my supply of Beemerangs up high, if they get wet the wooden practice ones warp.

Northern Queensland has been flattened by cyclone Debbie.

There's a guy from the GTA who overwinters in Cairns. He's posted a few photos on GTAM forum. Accounts of 640mm rain (2 foots). Yikes.  :yow

At this stage I don't think there were any deaths and I hope it remains that way but mega damage to property. The Whitsundays a big tourist area flattened along with neighboring towns. Flooding to continue for the next couple of days.
What do you mean Sharknado nonsense I thought it was a documentary, and to which one are you referring Sharknado 1, 2, 3 or 4.  :hehehe We survived unscathed we sort of live in an area where we miss most of the storms. In twenty years we have only had mild hail twice, while areas just down the road both north and south get hammered. When we first moved here, the eldest daughter and I would watch the storms coming up from the south and before they got to us they would split and go around.  :dunno  Due to this The Honorable Minister for Finance and Recreation refuses to move anywhere out of this area.
Regards a grateful and extremely lucky Martin.

Sharknado definitely is NOT nonsense.  Can you imagine the risks the people took to make those films?

Making those movies was even more dangerous than professional wrestling!!!

Martin, What is the 24 hr. rainfall amount?  We had the 12.5"  last fall (10,000 + yr event for our area).  Are you hearing crazy precipitation amounts??? Good luck!

Apparently highest was 500 mm plus in some areas rain gauges were overwhelmed.  Flooding is still prevalent in some areas, we have been subjected to more previously, we got of lightly. Went down to the local shopping centre and very little evidence of last nights storm. Leaves twigs and a couple of branches, as stated we live in an anomaly storms seem to either miss or be really mild compared to other places. Only heard of one death related to the storm a car accident.
