1985 K100 Apologies
« on: March 13, 2017, 10:59:05 PM »
This 1985 K100 had stood outside but under a tarp for 3 years at Key West, Florida, I bought the BMW via ebay in Feb 2017 (as it was located in Florida) for $400.00, Needs a lot of work which I believe with the help of this forum I can do myself. a fascinating learning experience on the BMW pedigree. 1st pic shows bike as acquired, 2nd pic shows beginning of restoration, 3rd pic shows cosmetic improvement, I'm now about to work on the motor. I'm basically looking to get the bike in a presentable and running condition as a hobby, working on the bike reminds me of working on Mecanno when I was kid. I removed all the fairing and saddlebags, top box etc. which I won't be putting back.

a lot of rust but worth restoring which is now cosmetically completed, the bike will never be mint, just working on getting it in a presentable and good mechanical condition, all the usual issues from any bike that has been out in the elements,  water and crap in the tank, now cleaned out, i'm working on the fuel injectors and fuel lines, i've changed the oil and filter, no water in the oil, actually looked pretty clean, plugs are good and there is a spark on all 4, I bought the headlight, brackets, turn signals and mirrors (awaiting arrival) off ebay, I have a K1200RS which I acquired in Jan 2017, my first BMW, what an impressive bike. I've always liked German engineering, I've owned BMW (car), Audi, and several Mercedes over the years including a 300SEL 6.3 back in 1976 when I lived in Great Britain. I owned a motorcycle store back then mid 70s selling bikes and used spare parts, all british bikes, Royal Enfield to Ariel to Triumph etc. etc. etc. Working on this K100 is a great mechanical learning experience, my philosophy is this: if it was made by man it can be fixed by man....(with some help from Motobrick and youtube!!!!)

Apologies for posting my 1985 K100 restoration on your section, I'm new to the forum, you are welcome to delete the video and pic. My K100 was in as bad a state as yours and at a cost of $290.00 all in (see the vid and description) 'BMW K100 1985 Continued Restoration Vid #4 it was an educational project well worth the time and effort. Keep going with your restoration, parts are available and cheap.
