Just thought I would share my experience with a Works Performance shock being rebuilt at their shop. If this needs to be moved my bad, not sure where to put this post. 


So... about four weeks ago i sent my rear shock into works performance to be rebuilt. I had purchased this bike only a week before or so and it was outfitted with a nice shock from Works. All or their shocks are custom made for the person and application as far as I can tell and I was unsure how mine was set up, but it needed a rebuild as it was leaking pretty bad so i sent it in.


I called them after a week and a half and they informed me that their shop had flooded somewhat with all of the rain in California so they would be backed up for awhile, this was a bummer but there there is not much you can do about acts of God.


Anyway I got a call today to tell me what they found out and give me a price for the rebuild. the price to rebuild the shock was 120 something but they asked how much I weighed as the shock was built to carry someone who weighed 400 lbs or two 200 lb people. I am 200 lbs and ride solo for the most part. This was a bummer. The gentleman who I talked to also informed me that the shock was an older style that they don't stock springs for anymore so it would be a big deal to rebuild the shock for my weight. I was pretty disappointed with this news but he asked if he could talk to the engineers and look around the shop and call me back.


I got a call back an hour or so later and much to my surprise and joy they found an older spring that would fit and gave me 50% off the price of the spring so I am getting a rebuilt rear shock and new springs custom for my weight for 170 something.


10/10 would recommend, great people to work with and took the time to explain the problems that they were facing with my shock.

I won a $100 Works shock coupon at a rally a number of years ago and they let me apply it to a rebuild on my airhead shock.


After sending it in I was called to tell me that they found worn components not normally part of a rebuild and the cost would be a bit more.  I gave them the go-ahead and it was returned along with the worn components in a couple of weeks.


Very satisfied, now to get one for my Brick.

I bought my K75S with a leaky Works shock.  They rebuilt it for me, and installed a standard length rod(it had a 1/2" shorter rod).  Total cost was very reasonable considering that they replaced the seals, bladder, and rod.   

My only complaint was that they had quoted 2 week turnaround and it took just over 6 weeks, and it took a couple emails to get them working on it.  In fairness, I had sent it in in December just before the holiday season. 

Overall, I am very pleased with their service and would recommend them in a second.   And they not only service their own stuff, but they will work on other company's shocks, too.

Apparently Work Performance has gone out of business and closed its doors for good.  Customers who were caught with orders in progress had either their money returned or parts sent back.  Read the following thread on ADV Rider:

Does anyone know where you can get a Works Performance shock rebuilt? Alternately, does anyone know a source for seals? I can measure and order myself if I need to. lol

Had mine rebuilt a few weeks ago at EPM in New Jersey. Helpful staff and quick turnaround. They didn't have new bladders, so it was fortunate mine was still in good nick.

Thanks for that. Important info as I’m considering buying a used shock. Not sure what condition the bladder’s in.

I wonder how often they need a new bladder.

I just installed a pair of newly rebuilt Works shocks on my R1100RS purchased from a gentleman I've dealt with before in California. I have not tried them out as yet, but am looking forward to doing so. I bought a used Works shock for my K75S a few years back that was leaking badly and sent it to a rebuilder in Salt Lake via Wright's Motorcycle Shop. He never returned the shock rebuilt or otherwise, and wouldn't reply to my voicemails so I was out $75.00.( Guess it can be considered stolen. ) Finally I bought a new Progressive 412 on Ebay for the K75S that a fellow had he'd never installed. To bad Works is apparently out of business as they made a good shock at a reasonable price, good to know they are still being rebuilt by at some places however.

Finally I bought a new Progressive 412 on Ebay for the K75S that a fellow had he'd never installed.

That was me!  Long story with that shock but it never has been out of the box. 412's are probably comparable to the original Boge, maybe a little better.

I was debating buying a Works and getting it rebuilt. Probably going to go with YSS at this point.
