Last ride before our first big snow fall

Here in the Finger Lakes we have short summers of unsurpassed beauty. Winter here will test one's metal. I rode our K1100rs around the area on Friday November 18. On the straight stretches of road with no traffic, no intersections and 2 mile line of sight I twisted the throttle too 110 mph... the bike had more to give but I am a cautious rider. The weather guessers predicted lake effect snow. For once they were right...on the 19,20,21 it snowed 3 ft at our house. The snow plow driver who does our driveway worked 17 hours straight to keep his clients plowed out, for which I am grateful. The bike is safely tucked away for the winter.

Very picturesque scenery, but I think I would get over the cold and the inability to ride very quickly. I think the coldest day I have experienced this year was 18 C. But would still like to experience a white Christmas.

snow. yuck.  has not hit here yet.

got a 135mi ride in today with two other bikes and three old bmw cars.  was 32-38deg.  brr.


might get one more in next weekend, then done for year.  :-(

Beautiful bike, beautiful location, sorry about the snow.  Seems a little extreme for this time of year??  Now you can start plotting maintenance and upgrades :bmwsmile !

I mis-spent my youth in Rochester, NY. We'd get hammered with snow like that every year. Good job getting out to enjoy the last clear day.

Here's my last high-altitude ride of the year. It was 20F (about -8C) when I started. Flagstaff AZ to Grand Canyon - 200 mile round trip. Elk, deer, coyote... gorgeous. Got out of Flagstaff before it got hit with even more snow and closed the airport.

Scud    If we were to move we would pick Flagstaff. We have a Ford 73TD which is the best truck ever.

Every time I'm up to my a$$ in the white stuff I cheer myself up by thinking of Tug Hill, Oswego, and the area around Syracuse.

Looks incredibly beautiful and picturesque and I would love to visit it. But if I lived there I would go into withdrawal and end up buying a Ural outfit.  Then I would probably end up with frostbite. :hehehe  At the moment we have storms coming so can't even go for a ride and find a palm tree to sit under, but contemplating putting on the wet weather gear and going anyway. :dunno

Every time Syracuse is mentioned I recall its description by an 1820 visitor as recorded in Mark Kulansky's book Salt: A World History.
So desolate it would make an owl weep to fly over it.

Syracuse was founded in 1820 by 1825 the Erie Canal was open and Syracuse steadily grew it's economy to the point that by the time of the Civil War the NYS economy gdp rivaled that of some European nations.  The area has a long and interesting history. 


For those Motobrickers who want to ride around the Fingerlakes, it's a beautiful area full of wineries, Inns and nice restaurants.  Here are some of our favorite places to see:
Anyelas Winery is right across the street from us
Red Newt Bistro
Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca
Sherwood Inn here in Skaneateles
Corning Glass Museum
Glenn Curtiss Museum

Our village of Skaneateles was incorporated in 1823 and in the 193 years since, the winters have not changed.
