'85 K100 RS plus+

So that pretty blue K became the candidate for a faster rig than the Ural. Last time I did this was with an'04 K1200RS, and it was a real fun rig. Dave and Ruth Ann Hannigan handled the installation, using their light-weight (180lb) sport sidecar. Below are some original pics from when I first posted, and how it looks after picking it up this week..........I am grinning! :riding:

Never tried an road outfit but is on my bucket list. Looks great have fun.

Pretty snappy looking bike. Love the light on the sidecar.

My wife and I were holidaying in Beijing in 1999 and I happened across an article in an expat magazine - an Englishman working at a minor central American embassy was exporting Urals with sidecar for about $3000 (I think I read that it was a copy or thereabouts of a 1938 BMW).

Gave him a call, paid a visit and he encouraged us to take the bike sitting in the corner of the carpark for a ride. First sidecar ride for me. So there we were chugging around the tree-lined backstreets of the capital for about 40mins. Plenty of countersteer and revs out of the corners and the reverse when braking.

Great afternoon's entertainment.

Was underwhelmed with the build quality and decided not to pursue it.
Fun while it lasted.

Enjoy. Looks like it's in good condition.

I am not certain that the steering damper is necessary, and I am going to play around with the suspension a bit. It was installed as part of the package, which is easier for them than tuning the suspension. The rear shock is too soft for the weight of the rig, in my opinion, and needs up-grading. I have ordered a Progressive 435, and will take it from there. Handling is good and tight with the lightweight sidecar, but more steering input required cause of the stock RS bars. Sidecar handlebars would give a lot more leverage. With the low CG of the car, it handles much tighter than the Ural CT which has higher ground clearance and more body roll.

Nice looking rig.  I just sold my Ural Patrol with the intention of hacking a suitable K bike donor.  I liked the Ural, but just not enough power and I only used the 2WD one time, other than snow play.  Hows the K100 do with a passenger in the sidecar?  Plenty of power to get where you want?  I am not sure if I am going to look for a K75 or K100 to hack to replace my Ural.

Wow, what a nice rig.  Is that the original paint on the bike?  Looks totally pristine.  How does it handle without an Earles fork on the front end?  Does it need it?  Would love a hack, but there is no way the wife will park her new car outdoors in the winter(or any other time of year) to make room for one.
