Dakar Yellow Paint Code
« on: November 12, 2015, 10:55:40 AM »
Recently added a '94 K75S to the fleet.  I want to touch up some stone chips and scrapes on the belly pan but can't find the proper color.  Bike is supposed to be Dakar Yellow, but there is no paint code sticker under the seat.  Bike does not appear to be a repaint unless it was completely stripped of original paint.   Previous owner tells me that the tank was repainted, and the color is a good match.

I have checked the net, and there is no mention of Dakar Yellow even being a paint choice for that year or model.  Is there any way I can find out the original paint code as there appears to be 2 versions of Dakar Yellow.

VIN last seven 0154467.  Is there a color clue there.

Well, it might be a small consolation, but those digits when run through the BMW VIN decoder come back with a paint color called "Sonderlackierung" translated as "special paint." :hehehe Maybe it really is one of the two Dakar yellows. Only a matching color swatch will confirm that, I'd think.

There's an indication at Ted's Garage that the 1994S had a Dakar Yellow among its colors, too.

So the previous owner wasn't kidding when he said it was rare.   I am thinking it's color Dakar #1 which is shown to have been used in the earl 90's on the K1.

Think I'll contact the guys I've been getting paint from to see what BMW 267 turns up.  Thanks for the links Johnny.  Will give me something to look at tonight.

Some BWM paint codes are listed here: http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/paintcodes/yellows.htm

There are 2 Dakar yellows according to this site. Paint code 337 is the only Dakar Yellow for a K. Nice, too.

jsb had a nice Dakar yellow - I recall the paint code was indeed 999 (special for one year - '94 maybe?) as was thinking of re-painting my '94 in the same (awesome) colour ...

The brick in question IS jsb's.  I bought it last month.  Sweet ride, but it needs a little touch up.

There is a Dakar yellow 1994 K75s for sale on the Houston Craig's list.  Stated to be 1 off 100.  Photo shows a stinger bee on the fairing.

True Ace, according to the Ted's link that Johnny posted, 94's in Dakar are a special edition.  Wonder how we can find how many of them there were.  That yellow sure looks good with the black trim.

So, doing my doo diligence do I have one of these?

Any updated info as there is no color code under the seat unlike my '93 with 690.

Bob's told the PO that it was one of 100 in that color, I see that there was a special Dakar Yellow but am skeptical of low numbers.

What does a ViN checker tell you?

The only VIN checker I know of, or have access to is realoem.com and I don't see any indication of paint code.

never say forever, it's mine, all mine.  :neener:   there is an online site that duplicates samples, and is supposed to be accurate, but expensive. I have a mismatched side cover I'd like to paint. Let me know what you find, I only need a little.

Thanks Johnny,
Found this post during my search but did not have any way to research the VIN and how the "only 100 imported" was determined.

As I type this I am looking at a pint of Cromax Chromabase BC.  Cost me $40.

The label says:

W9901K
Car: BMW
Code: 267
Color: Dakar Yellow
Year: 1999

I have used this paint to make repairs to the Cheetos K75S, one of which was on just the top of the fuel tank, another on a part of the left side fairing, blending both repairs into the original paint with a cheap airbrush.  The match was BEERFECT, not good, but BEERFECT; not real close, but BEERFECT.

Did I mention that the match was BEERFECT?

It was BEERFECT.

Friggin' BEERFECT.
