K11 LED project
« on: May 23, 2011, 01:54:53 AM »
It started out with this.

I'm making a dash light.

This looks better and easier.

Ok, if I use this LT-x12SMD: 7 inch 12-LED Light Tube

Found here http://www.superbrightleds.com/

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FSMD_LED_tube.htm

I want a waterproof switch maybe like a push-to-talk rubber thingy.

What else do I need?

Power supply?
I don't have a clue.

I'll be wiring through the blue sea fuse block.

Your bike is the power supply.

Switch:  LT windscreen switch that's built into the left combo switch or make one of your dash switches into a multifunction switch. (Or I can make you one.)  For example a switch that does hazards when down, momentary up for your light bar.

I'll take you up on the 'build me one' using the hazard light switch and pay you for it.
Please send instructions on how to wire it in.

Time is real tight for me and I have other things I need to get done on the bike before heading west.

momentary up for your light bar.
Won't you want it maintained to keep the lights on?

Yes.

I thought he meant this.

Up = LED on
Mid = LED and Hazard off
Down= Hazard on

Is that possible?

I don't see why not but the cool FrankenConfiguration would require different switch guts than the stock hazard switch since that's a 2 position on/off switch. Using the innards of a heated grip switch would do the trick since it's a 3 position.

You'd need to know a little bit more about the history/legacy of the early hazard switches. The switch guts are different so somebody who knows what they are doing can easily make an early one into a 3 position switch so that it is fixed in the down position but momentary in the up position.

Oh....well they work but they are amber????

I thought they were white.
Really.

Now what, I wanted white.
Do you have a white LED bar I can buy or could you direct me to where I could buy one.

I don't know where you ever got the impression that they were white.

Yer on yer own if you insist upon white.

Oof!  :-[

I've taken a bit brain damage and some things got knocked out in '07.

Sorry, it will be just fine.
I'll move on to the clock light then button it back up. ;D

Installed an anber LED driving light.

Modified GPS bar to recieve a 7" white LED dash light.

Installed, awaiting LED to arrive.
It will be turned on and off via a modified hazard switch.

After Steve cleaned up the HID relay and wiring, it was up to me to route it.

Re-routed the GPS wiring.
