86 k100 versus 88 k100
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:50:20 PM »
My first k100 was a 1988 model I loved and cherished it for 4 years , it took me round Europe twice ! Did not even check the oil lol .
Sadly last year I got knocked of it and the crank was ripped out . I've been commuting daily on an Africa twin which I love too . Last week I bought another k100 from eBay , 1986 with 60000 miles ! It might not be as refined as the 88 model ie no petrol gauge and no temp gauge but this lady is way faster than my old one . Is there any reason why ? Can you chip them ? Where do I get a belly pan ?

not much in the way of go-fast parts for old K's.  Shouldn't be much difference between the 88 & 86, unless one was an RT and the other was an RS or naked.
The 85's supposedly had more HP with a hotter cam.  Belly pans are out there, but why bother?  Doesn't make it go any faster.
