As a law abiding United States citizen, I never exceed the statutory speed limits.   :hehehe

Me too, here in Finland. But I'm quite sure the speed meter of my K75 is very optimistic and that's why I may sometimes ride with high numbers on the speed meter...  :hehehe

(Not K-series bike but I was testing a Honda Blackbird: 1st gear max was 160 km/h = 100 mph, then to the max of the second and third gear and I suddenly felt the curves had strangely changed to very tight ones and I never saw the 300+ km/h = 190+ mph digits the owner says it goes... So it must have even more optimistic speed meter because I would never exceed the speedlimits...  :D )

Actually I usually follow speed limits very well because if speeding, my back starts to hurt. It's somehow related my wife sitting on the backseat...  :hehehe

Riding my new K75S home from SF on the 5, she started vibrating and the wind was acting like it does on my GL500 at about 75mph.

I glanced down to see I was doing 105mph...

I'd never even hit the ton on the Honda, so I tucked in, got up to 112 and then backed off to regular freeway speeds for the rest of the trip.  :curvy-road

Oh, back when there was no daylight speed limits in MT, I met the MT state police coming the other way when running an indicated 95 mph on US 212 heading toward Little Big Horn.  I didn't roll off and he didn't bat an eyelash.

Ya gotta love that those K-bikes will run at those speeds for hours on end without any drama.

I remember wondering what the cops would think was, "reasonable and prudent".  That's why I kept it in double digits.  I figured triple digits they might consider to be a bit beyond that particular metric.

:riding: Is there life beyond 65???

I had a friend that used to ride a SECA 650 and he wore a t-shirt I loved, I've looked for one but to no avail. I played around and came up with something similar, I think I'll have some made, what do you think...

When I raced I had a shirt that said Life Begins at 170 and a GP 500 bike on it - I don't know that it begins there, but it sure makes you assess things differently.  :hehehe

Around 150 kph, I think, which would be about 93 mph. That was testing the bike out when I first got it.

Been up to 140 kph while passing folks on the highway more than enough times since then, but that's about it. More than fast enough for my terrible eyeballs. Course the speedo on mine seems to be about 5 kph high (which is quite a bit!), but I'm taking that into account.

Not too fast by your guys standards…. Last weekend I did a mountain road trip with a passenger on my 90 K75RT and was hitting 80mph in the twisties, had it cranked over far enough that I ground down the outside of my shoes a bit. That was a great fun ride. I'm not too inclined to do top speed runs in this part of the world because of the wildlife risk, I've only had the bike a couple months and already clobbered a deer that spooked out of a ditch in front of me. I got super lucky and managed to stay on the bike and keep it upright, took the deer in the shoulder/chest area and had a good splat mark on my coat from the deer fur after.

I think I clipped 100 today. Group I was riding with didn't all make a a turn. The Sweep (my cousin) and I got caught by traffic. Heard him tell the lead we would catch up so I did. Looked in my mirror and Cuz was playing catch up with me on his brand new Harley lol
I was really impressed how solid it felt and howchard it was pulling. I really didn't realize I had wound it out that much. Then scrubbing off the 40 or so surplus MPH so I could drop back in behind the group was a little scary.

If I can figure out my 12year old GPS it may have the actual speed in it.

Yes, my K75 too is very solid and nice to ride 100-110 mph even with passenger.

Achieved a personal best of an indicated 130mph on my Chile Red K75 today. Guessing that to be something over an actual 115. Figger that must be all there is, as I held it wrung out all the way for over a minute.

116 mph on a K 75,downhill with a tailwind.

Unless your top speed is verified by GPS or a LEO it's probably inaccurate on a BMW speedometer. Well known to be 10% or higher.

Is it really? Maybe it can be adjusted or depends on tires? My ex-police bike's speedometer shows exactly (+/- 1 km/h) the same numbers as my GPS.

Yeah, Th' Duck sez they categorically run 10% over. I believe he also posted how to fix it in The Lieberry. But this involves dickin' with teeny weeny electrical parts, soldering and other forms of Black Majic Hoo-Doo where I fear to tread.

Strange... either something has been done to my brick or there are different speedometers  - different for mph and km/h versions? For European/American versions? I've never tested any other bricks so I can't say much. Mine is very accurate though.

Police bikes have a specially calibrated speedo. Needs to be done if they are giving tickets based on it.

Well, You may be right. At least it would be a logical explanation. There are some other differences so why not this one, too.

Most motorcycles for the domestic market have speedometers that indicate up to 10% higher than actual road speed.  That's why there's a market for electronic add-ons to correct the readings.

For the K-bike, there is an potentiometer inside the unit that can be adjusted.  Use a program like Karamba to provide the calibrated signal and adjust away.  Means taking off the instrument cluster from the bike to get this done -- but you do it only once.  No soldering or playing with the electronics required, except for a special audio cable to adapt the cluster to the PC.
