How Fast is Fast?
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:54:45 PM »
I just have a couple of fun & silly questions for all of you Brickheads. What is the top speed that you have ever done on your brick? That is the main question. The secondary question is this: What bike modifications did you have to make to achieve that speed?

125 MPH on the interstate. She was stock back then but now I am running with better injectors and tires!
Hit the throttle and live.
Don't blink.
Don't slow.
Just breathe.

I hit an indicated 110 couple of times,  removed airbox and fitted a conical K&N filter to the air meter, with a Supertrapp or Goofmaster pipe, but those mods were more to look and sound cool than add any real performance.  It is a 2v K, yaknow.

LOL The first time I raced anyone was on Hwy 99,  Sacramento to Stockton.  I was on a R60 and the other guy was on a Honda 750. I lost big time but it was worth it because he got really pissed that a Tonka toy R60 could even come close to his 750. Within a week, he went through his whole bike. Top to bottom.

116 per GPS while the speedo read about 130. No mods and would have kept climbing.

First try, the Givi fairing wasn't up to it.

Second try, rev limiter in 5th on a nameless reservation road.

According to specs, that should be 134 mph.

Although there's not so much air to push aside up here on the high desert, I'd wager that the real speed was   somewhat less than what the book claims.

All is stock. Wouldn't mind a 4 valve motor.

I did 38 (indicated) in a 25 once.  Does that count?

Stock on a K1200 with a Givi E52 trunk and saddle bags.   :2thumbup:

(of course I won't tell you it is a glitch and it appears that it is reading in KPH since on the run that day I hit maybe 125 to 130 mph tops on a straight ... I have really topped 140+ according to the Nevada Sate Troopers tho)

I had the old girl up to a GPS indicated 98 once (105 on the speedo). It had more, but in western WI it can be tough to find a straight road without cops. (Summer project?)

I went 80 the other day. That'll probably be enough for me. Must've gotten all that propensity for risk taking behavior out of my system in my younger days. Plus, my teenage son is getting ready to go on my auto insurance. I don't need any infractions of the traffic laws driving up the cost even more than it will already once he's on there.

Indicated 110 mph; at Portland International Raceway; Bone stock '90 K75RT w/ 96K miles on it and about 30 psi in the tyres.

Of course, I would never go anywhere near that on a public highway.   :nono

Yeah I hear ya, I'm not afraid of going fast but I'm sure afraid of facing my wife when I have to explain a speeding ticket!

Ran my 86 K100 in New Mexico up to 145mph, wanted to keep accelerating but bike started to wobble as I got to about 135.

60mph but I'm on a learners so not allowed on the hwy yet. LOL

Now the fastest I have ever been was in my company work van. Those LS 5.3 motors are the BOMB!  I managed to get that thing going fast enough I drove across the gulf of Mexico!

 GPS confirmed.

(dont tell my boss he doesn't like when I go over the speed limit)

120 indicated between Atlanta & Montgomery last week, 86 k100 RS w/bags & fairing.  Felt good @ 115mph.  120 got a little scary so I backed it back down to the speed limit..

120 indicated on a fairly regular basis, '92 nekid K75. According to Duck, that prolly means something less than 110 due to the 10% discrepancy with the stock speedo. Need to load a proper GPS app into my iPhone to confirm.
