Looking for somewhere to spend the night
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:07:51 AM »

Well since June is approaching I figure I should probably start planning a few things. June 2, 2012 I'll be leaving home with a friend of mine heading to Washington DC and then onward. Our only plan is to ride and our only destination is home when we're done.

So here's what I'm looking for: any bricker with a spare bedroom/floor/backyard or any other free place 2 stupid kids could crash for the night. Anywhere in the lower 48 is fair game because who knows where we might end up... Hell, even if you just want to meet up for lunch or a ride or anything, let me know! Meeting other brickers is something I've been looking forward to for a long time (only seen 3 other bricks in the flesh before). The only thing I'm sure of at this point is that we'll be passing through DC, Washington, California, Texas, and Florida, just because we've already got friends out there that we plan to see-- but really, anywhere is possible. We'll be leaving June 2nd from Nashville and might be on the road  till June 10th, maybe till August, not sure yet.

So if you'd like to get together or even be willing to let a couple young riders have a place to stay for a night, reply or PM me and we can figure something out!

Yea, I'm the tall one

Depending when you are coming through, I may have a spot in Berkeley, although it may be tight, or on a couch.

If I'm around, you could definitely swing by for lunch. I'm right by the campus, so lots of fun stuff for (smart) "stupid kids."

Excellent.

The 4 or 5 times I've tried in the past with Couchsurfing I've never gotten any replies back so I sorta gave up on it. Plus it's tough using it since I don't have a smartphone or carry a laptop with me. I figure that I'd rather plan ahead and meet up with some people I would be guaranteed to at least have something in common with than head into a city and end up having nowhere to stay. The closer you get to the lights, the harder it is to find a good campsite! :P

In terms of connectivity, you may want to pick up a cheap netbook. Its nice to have manuals, maps, movies, etc on it, and a way to power it from from the bike. And wifi at every Starbucks, and most McDonald's

Or just pick up a good 1W USB network adapter with a good antenna.  Given the number of people who leave their networks unsecured you can have free coast-to-coast WiFi.

Even though I may not get back to everyone personally, I appreciate everyone's help; 17 days until I get into touring mode myself. Found out my friend is the best man for the wedding so now he (and I mean we, I kinda have no choice but to help) is in charge of the bachelor party so we'll have to start moving a few days early. But I'll keep in touch when I can!

Finally made it out of DC-- hopefully never to return, I'm no city boy. Headed to Maine and then westward. The CB350 had a pretty major oil leak from the points and tach cable covers but a small shop in Philadelphia fixed that up and it's running almost as good as the K. Just have to get past Boston and the traffic nightmares will be over...

I hear you there. I was there last year, all I can say is wow. I've been thru some major cities, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, but non compare to DC for congestion and stupidity.

Ha, you bricKheads should scoot Tokyo or Bangkok to compare traffic patterns.

Tokyo is confusing, riding on the WRONG side of the road, Kanji signage, mega congestion. Plus, if you hesitate for one second, the Nips will will filter past you in a heartbeat. (both sides)

First time on the Tokyo/Tomei super Skyway was scary.  I did get used to it per say. The top deck runs FAST _______________!

Rome was another city that is diffacult to navigate, damn Italian's and there scooters, anything goes, we even rode on the grass & sidewalks.
