A couple of good map-based US campground websites
(1/1)
frankenduck:
Was doing some poking around today and stumbled across a couple of nice map-based camping websites:
(The paragraph headers are clickable links to the respective sites.)
Camping-USA: This site includes both public and private parks and currently has over 15,000 of them. Click "Campgrounds" in the menu bar and then drill down by clicking on a state. A map appears that you can click on and then drag around or if you scroll down you can click on a link for campgrounds near a particular city. Then click on an icon and a balloon appears with a "details" link that takes you to a page describing the campground and maybe has some reviews.
USCAmpgrounds.info: This site includes only public campgrounds (11,500 of them) and covers the entire US and Canada. Scroll down on their home page and start double-clicking to zoom in on an area of interest. When Google maps gets down to the 20 mile scale the campground icons appear and when you click on it a balloon appears with links related to that campground as well as the latitude and longitude you can use in your GPS. If you're dragging the map around and don't see campgrounds then click on your browser's reload button.
If you know of any other useful camping sites then please post them up.
I've attached example screen prints from each site below.

Frank: thanks for the info! :2thumbup:
I'll see if I'm technologically up to posting pictures. I've already spent more time on my iphone today, loading apps, synching than I have since I got it 6 months ago.
