Project "White Lightning" is complete!

Hello All:

I have finshed the restore of my 85 K100RS. I am thrilled and can hardly wait until the snow subsides. I want to thank those who helped me with the technical side of things. I had to put new bearings in the crankshaft other than that it was finding some parts and giving the bike a full going through.

Did you paint the engine black? Typically the 85 has an as cast surface. Dont think they had the black covers until later in the model life.

Great work, she looks super.  I am torn on the chin/belly pan.  Mine has it, but I am still not sold on it.  Seems to always be in the way for things. 
What is that third gauge on the lower right side?

And a K75S in Marakesh Red is the best looking K ever made....  (old scan from the 90s)

dunno,black bikes are such a pain in the ass to keep clean, show every water spot and more.

Red seems to fade more quickly, especially if you reside in the sun belt.

Code # 690 Silk Blue is my fav on the bricK color wheel.

I tend to prefer oranges over reds. Pantone Warm Red is nice (more orange than red and not a BMW color). 

I'm not a big fan of blue, even though I own one.  The paint on my 117K, 1990 K-bike isn't in the best shape anymore. If/when I repaint it, it'll be pearl white.

But hey, if YOU like the color of YOUR moto-brick, awesome!   :2thumbup:

I had my wheels powdered coated black, but that white is sweet...

How well did the project go?.  What did you find to be the hardest part of the project?.

The hardest part was fixing the spun bearings on the crankshaft. The bike came with a Luftmeister turbo kit on it. The turbo system blew an oil hose and that resulted in the spun crank bearings on 1 and 2. The bike came with a spare 85 block and I put the good bearings from the spare block into the original block. I had to plastigage them to see if they would work and they were in spec. I disassembled the whole bike and repaired or serviced what was needed. With the help from forums I was able to do all of this, thank you all. I bought the missing parts needed from Ebay and any new parts like nuts and bolts from Blackfoot Motorsports.

The bike runs as good as it looks. but then again it is a BMW.

It took me from Dec 1 2011 to Mar 1 2012 to complete it. Working part time on it.

The black is factory and it was flaking off on the inside of the covers and I had to remove it so it would not get all in the engine.

The bike was owned by a BMW rep in Washington originally. Then bought by the second owner in Calgary, Canada.

The third guage on the right is a VDO aftermarket temp gauge put there by the previous owner.

You're welcome.  It's just my opinion.  But, yours is the best looking (judging by the pictures of course) K-RS I've seen in quite some time.

That's not to say that other K-RS's aren't cool, it's just that I've been lusting after a pearl white one since the early '90s.
