where should I grab some GPS power?
WayneDW:
I have a hardwire system coming to power my new Garmin GPS. I know I want to splice it into a switched circuit. Anyone have a suggestion as to which one I should go after? ('92 K75RT)
thanks.

White nylon four wire connector in relay box. (For factory alarm.) If memory serves the green/brown wire is the switched one.

Hi Wayne,
You a sure you want to power off the unit every time you stop for gas??? I have mine on an auxillary outlet always hot. Turn off the power when I want to turn it off. PIA firing it up all the time.
Just my opinion.

I run my Garmin Zumo 550 from the OEM alarm connector so it's switched power. It's easy enough to run the unit on the internal battery when stopping for fuel etc plus it means I don't accidentally leave it switched on. There is also a concensus of opinion that leaving the cradle powered can help or even cause corrosion and mount failure over a period of time. I had this happen to me on a cradle that for a large part of it's life was always powered direct from the battery. No such problem on another mount that had always had switched power.

I run my GPS on all of my bikes on switched power. It turns on automatically when the bike is turned on and the internal battery lasts for several hours so stopping is not as issue nor is running down the bike's battery if I leave it on the bike for however long.
