Mount on the windshield?
WayneDW:
Got a GPS for Christmas. It came with a suction cup mount. I'm wondering if this system would be adequate on my RT windshield or should I spring for something more substantial?
thanks.

I wouldn't trust it long term unless you can put some sort of leash on it as a contingency.
It's also pretty easy to steal unless you take it with you/lock it up on the bike every time you leave the bike.

RAM is your solution ____________.
1" diameter ball U handlebar clamp, 1" diameter diamond plate ball for the backside Ram cradle, 1 inch extension arm and your good to go.
RUGGED, best design out there other than the pricey Tourtech.
All the above run about $40.00

My experience with the Zumo660 may not apply to your setup but my method for attaching it on my 95 K75RT may give you ideas for your RT.
The Zumo660 came with the Ram mount harware in the package but, ironically, I did not need to use it because the mounting option was staring me in the face. Just mount it directly, securely to the face of the fairing.
The upper portion of my fairing had 4 unused holes. I removed the left two blank covers and used the open holes to install the Zumo660 mounting bracket, using through bolts with toggles in the back, covered with surgical tubing for a cushion/protection on the rear side. I put a rubber damper between the fairing and the GPS wiring mount to give it a little protection and to angle the GPS up slightly. 2 years and 32000 miles later, it has not had a single problem.
