K75 s engine oil leak
« on: December 13, 2019, 09:31:28 PM »
Removed lower case fairing to find this oil leak, small enough it doesn’t appear on ground... yet.  Maybe that sender? Oil pump?  Most likely culprit?

I'm gonna guess timing chain cover.  Where it contacts the valve cover.  That seam is sealed with goop, and it can leak if it's not sealed properly.

Thoroughly clean and dry it, then run or ride it. If it's hard find, after cleaning and drying spray with spray on talcum powder in your preferred fragrance,  it will show up easier.

Put the lower fairing back on.

That's what I was going to say. All the spotless bikes I see on here are making me feel like an oddball. It's nice to see a picture of a bike that looks like mine.

I have three identified current oil leaks, each of which requires a different fix.
1: last oil change I didn't have a new crush washer so reused mine and there is a drip there. I've since bought a dozen so am set for the next go around.
2: the O-ring for the oil filter cover needs to be very clean and crack free. I think I've maybe got a crack because I get a small amount of seepage around that. Next oil change I'd like to replace that.
3: the oil/water pump is letting a bit of oil ooze onto the front of the motor. I've not had the courage yet to disassemble and potentially replace that.
All in all, I lose hardly any oil and that would be my main concern. The garage floor where I park isn't as pretty as it could be but I don't need to top up between oil changes so that's good.

Leave lower fairing off, next rain ride will clean it up.
