firtsoffly outter gear remains the same... hot cold dry wet... always the same... motoport stretch kevlar jacket and pants... they breath and are water resistant for an hour when treated with 303 fabric care... held gloves with finger wiper... oxtar boots... gmax helmet...

Also, "not wearable", I don't ride with a wrist watch or rings on ... old habit's.

I find the layering works well for up to 10 hours in the saddle in freezing weather and is very comfortable.  The First gear jacket and my riding pants together with my K75RT's fairing are adequately waterproof to prevent water penetration to the layers below for periods up to 8+ hours in rain or snow. 

One thing I would really like to find is a pair of gauntlet gloves that are only insulated on the back of the fingers and hand.  I find that it's only the back of my hands that gets cold and the insulation on the front of the fingers is uncomfortable after long periods.

Opps, forgot to mention, when in hotel's to ask for shower caps. they're perfect under the helmet on cold, wet days, and double as first aid and GPS cover.

Is that a Bell Custom 500 Carbon helmet, Izod Boxer Briefs and Skechers Relaxed Fit 360 Supreme sandals?  Excellent choice for riding salt flats.

One thing I would really like to find is a pair of gauntlet gloves that are only insulated on the back of the fingers and hand.  I find that it's only the back of my hands that gets cold and the insulation on the front of the fingers is uncomfortable after long periods.

Best fall/winter gauntlet I've used are the Held Twin 2 in 1 glove. First compartment the palm side has a polyester mesh cloth right over the leather palm side.
Sliding hand into warmer Goretex lined 2nd compartment the palm side is insulated with a light tricot fleece type lining and back knuckle side has a nice monkey fur fleece lining. Fingers have a nice precurve and the leather is not overly thick restricting movement.
Honorable mentions are Dainese Jerico, Dainese Scout and Dainese Ergotour (lightest insulation).

ECWCS is what you want to search for.  Lots of parts that can be mixed and matched for almost any condition.  The system is built in layers.

I have the base layer polypropylene long underwear  first intermediate layer that is some sort of hard finish fleece and a second intermediate extreme cold bottoms that are polartec fleece and have suspenders and a lot of zippers up both the inseam and the outer seams.  I found them to be rather bulky so my long suffering wife tailored them, removing the zippers.  They fit nicely over the long underwear base and under my riding pants.  Dressed like that with a polartec fleece top under my riding jacket with liner I can ride my RT comfortably all day in temperatures down to freezing.

By mixing and matching layers I can have exactly the right amount of layers for whatever the weather is.  The only downside is that the polartec layers are a bit bulky and take up a lot of storage space when I'm not wearing  them.  I handle that by doing the colder parts of a trip first, and mailing the heavy layers home when I get to the warmer parts of the trip.  I just stop at a post office and grab a large flat rate box and mail it home with the stuff I don't need.

I use rev'it warm weather gloves, not sure how much protection they offer but they are better than nothing.  The general goal is to stay cool yet still have a decent level of protection.

Ah yes I forgot about boots. I use a pair of riding shoes, they have ankle and toe protection and are perforated to keep me cool. Again better than regular shoes by a mile but certainly not full track riding boots. 


I do have a full leather one piece racing suit and Dainese D-1 track boots and Dainese carbon gloves for when I go on the track with my Triumph but I would look pretty silly in all that on a brick on the road - hell I look pretty silly in it on the Triumph on the track lol

I have a crash tested pair of Fly Milepost touring boots with over 70,000 miles on them that are still going strong.  At $129 they have proven to be extremely cost efficient.  The only issue I've had with them is that the end of the zipper pulls have broken.  Really not a problem because I just put a piece of nylon cord on the zipper which turns out to be easier to pull for my arthritic hands.

Speaking of Fly Racing, I also have their wet vest which is good for hot weather riding.  The real test for it was a few years ago in the desert southwest in temperatures of 115F where it kept me reasonably comfortable under my riding jacket. 

Judging by the weight gain when I soak it, it hold about 1 1/2 liters of water that cools by evaporation.  Works great in the dry desert, but loses a little when the weather is humid.  Still, it's better than nothing and doesn't take up much space in my luggage when I don't need it.   A bonus is that when it's dry it can be worn in cool weather as a regular vest.

speaking of boots, I picked up a pair of these Bilt WP boots on sale a couple years ago and have been thoroughly impressed with them.  Not only are they WP & comfy with my misshapen feet, they're easy as slippers to get on and I've been using them for yardwork, bicycling in foul weather, and or course motorcycling in the rain.  Wearing them now loafing around the house.  Lotsa miles on them and they're holding up fine.
