City Bags at Washington Sailing Marina
« on: June 29, 2019, 04:42:50 PM »
I got a set of City Bags. They still let me have storage space, but the 1994 K75 is lot more slim in the garage. I feel they look good, proportional for the bike.
I did the pics at Daingerfield Island marina. It's on the Virginia side of the Potomac River across from DC.

Cheers,
Bill

Very nice. Also rode this AM, before it got ridiculously hot on the MD side. Cheers

yup, I tend to leave the city bags on rather than the big ones, just think they look better and the slimmer profile is a big plus.

City bags are the way to go if I'm not crossing the country.  I especially like the little partion in them that keeps stuff from falling out when I open them.  I can just toss things in there and not worry about them.  Only problem I have is that they seem to fall off pretty easily.  So far I've lost two of the damn things, and one of them had about $100 in tools in it.  Even though I went back no mare than 5 minutes after I noticed it was gone it was no where to be found.

I now attach each of mine semi-permanently with black ca ble ties, and so far, haven't lost another one.

Gryph you can get reusable cable ties. They come in very handy on road and camping trips, and around the workshop. I bought two assorted packets one for the Brick and one for the shop.

after getting the city bags, i haven't used the nice big ones at all.  perfect size.

odd yours are falling off.  what is failing?  mine stay on solid.  zero issues with them coming off unless i want them to.

I suspect that because the latch that holds them on is worn and able to open enough to release from the frame they can shake free.   The roads around here in New York are not very well maintained and the cases can bounce a lot, with the bounce increasing as the latch opens.  The last case I lost had the latch holding it locked, but wear in the mechanism was allowing it to open slightly.  I thought this would stop the problem as the first one I lost did not have a locking latch.

Of course, all of this is speculation as I have never been able to recover a lost case to see the latch after the case's bid for freedom.  By weaving a couple black cable ties through the latch and the hole in the frame, I  have been able to prevent any motion between the latch and the frame.  Time will tell if the roads around here can defeat this fix.
