New owner 1987 K100RS
« on: June 11, 2019, 07:28:34 PM »
Greetings, I am new to the Forum. I had restored a 1971 R75/5 back in 2011 and was always curious about the flat 4 brick K bikes so after all these years (8), I couldn't resist when a local K100RS with 15k miles came on the market that had been sitting 10 years and not running. I pulled the trigger and now it is in my garage awaiting restoration. The project should not be too dificult as the bike has been garaged since new and seems well taken care of. The main challenge I think will be getting the old fuel out, replacing all the fuel delivery sytems and gauge, cleaning the tank, replacing battery, and possibly the fuel injectors and going from there to get it started. So any advice would be welcome.
Thanks, John

Welcome from the PRV. Start a thread and post some photos in the Classic Motobricks section. Good luck with your moto.

all the rubber bits are suspect, from the tires to the crankcase vent hose.  Except the coolant hoses, they seem to be made from indestructorubber.  And if you have the rear brake fluid reservoir that visible beneath the battery cover they tend to become brittle with age and fall apart.

Thanks to all who replied. As soon as I take care of the title I will start work on the bike and post the progress. I am not much of a forum user so posting may be slow!

Started the project thread over in the Classic Motobrick section. First post June 14, second one today. It is actually hard to focus on tearing apart the bike and remembering to take photos along the way, especially with greasy hands.

Do you still have the 71 R75/5? That was my first bike. Sold it about 10 years ago and miss it. Curious to see pics

Welcome John, that's a great looking RS. Sounds like you can turn a wrench, and will have her purring again soon.
