New owner of K100 bike...er, parts

Howdy Gents,

Been looking for a K bike for a while and came across a cafe project someone started and decided to not move forward with.  Having a problem putting things back together that someone else felt the need to take apart, I couldn't resist. 

1987 K100LT

The gent dismantled it and sold some parts off.  I am hoping to put it back to stock and go thru everything as I do so.

This is as she sits...if I can get the pictures posted.  With a few bins of parts and pieces.

Welcome!  It looks like you are in the perfect starting position for a frame up restoration into a really nice bike.

Best news here is that the hacker you bought it from hadn't gotten the grinder out and looped it.  :yippee:


Almost everything you need can be found on eBay.  Fairly inexpensively if you are patient and check periodically.

Thanks all.  I did get a few manuals with the bike.  Been doing some studying.

I am grateful that the PO didn't get too far into his project and hack up anything.  Frame and wheels were going to the powdercoater but only the wheels ended up going.  My usual powder guy made noise about doing the frame so I went with another guy who I haven't used before so I only dropped off the wheels to see how he does. 

I should probably start a project thread.

Welcome aboard. Looks decent enough.  I'd put a support under the driveshaft apparently they don't like hanging too long it puts pressure on the joints. You will probably need to check and re-grease the splines so you might as well take it off.

Thanks I did pull the driveshaft and transmission.  Checked out the clutch and no leaks from the crank seal so I decided to just leave it (even though I have a new one).  I lubed the transmission shaft with Staburags and reinstalled it. 

I started a project thread to keep everything in one place.
