First Bike and New to Me K75

Hello everyone, just bought my first bike, a K75.  Does not run but I am looking forward to getting it running again.  Would love to meet up with anyone in the Richmond, VA area.  Looking forward to joining the "flying brick" community!

@ Laitch, it has approximately 38K

@ Stockester, correct, it is currently not running.  Haven't had any time to start trouble shooting yet, literally got her this morning.  Plan to start doing some trouble shooting this weekend though!

Welcome!  Looks to be in pretty good shape.  Any idea of how long it's been idle?  38,000 miles on a K75 engine is just barely broken in, your bike will be running for a long time once you get it sorted.  The brain trust here has dealt with many bikes in similar situations. 

Do you have any riding experience?

My best guess is that it was last really run in 2004 as that was the last inspection sticker. I bought it after extensive lurking on here and seeing the extensive amount of information on problem solving. I do not really have any riding experience, this is my first bike.

Natalena, the classic van is for sale. You yourself could own that fine piece of equipment haha

It's heavy for a first bike, and once you get it running, lot's of slow speed practice at a school parking or DMV lot will build confidence. My inseam is 30", and if I don't wear heeled boots, it's tip-toey at stops, so paying attention to the road camber is important. There might be MC Safety/Beginner/Refresher courses at a local college, which I recommend ... I've ridden since the 70's and still take a course now and then to stay up on skills.

The riding course is great advice.  In New York, passing an approved course will get you a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license.  These are heavy beasts and a bit clumsy in parking lots and heavy traffic, so learning from a good teacher will help prevent embarrassing moments.

One thing I have learned with mine is that I NEVER want to coast through an intersection while looking for oncoming traffic.  That quick stop when I see a car I didn't expect will put me off balance almost every time.  I ALWAYS stop at intersections to check for traffic.

Download the Ride Like A Pro tutorial. There's one for Indians but the others are for Americans. :giggles   Get the one entitled The New Ride Like A Pro.  The tutorial will give you an excellent understanding of the techniques involved in riding before you start on the moto. There are abbreviated versions of some of the RLAP techniques on YouTube.

You can even use a bicycle to practice some of them.  :yippee:
