K75S I might buy
« on: April 28, 2019, 08:32:40 AM »
So I found a 1991 K75S, the seller started out at $1500,and i've worked out what i think is a good deal. We agreed on $1000.It's missing the windscreen.Other than that everything works. ABS, gauges, everything. He had a local shop do some maintenance on the bike last year.New rear tire, spines lubed etc.
Last year there was a K100RT for sale for $1500 that I was close to buying, then it got sold. The guy that bought it put new tires on and a fuel cap gasket/rubber I think he said. Now he has it for sale. I could probably get it for $1800-$1900 given the new tires he put on. I know that bike was well taken care of by the previous owner.A BMW enthusiast. The K75s has only been owned by the seller for a couple of years, not a BMW guy for sure.I'm thinking of taking a chance on the S.It's closer, cheaper and really what I wanted in the first place when I started my search for a K.
Opinions?

ditto...

Did I miss a mention of mileage?

A windscreen is still available from BMW in both clear and tinted.

It's closer,cheaper and really what I wanted in the first place . . ..
It weighs ~50lbs less, too, when you need to lift it upright on the pavement, which you inevitably will need to do at some point. :giggles

18,000 miles on an S for $1k???!!!  You will hate yourself for the rest of your days if you pass it up.

The S is lighter, and handles nicer than the RT.  The only advantage the RT has is weather protection when you're riding in very cold and/or wet conditions.  While both bikes can be toured very nicely, to me, the RT is an interstate highway bike.  Very clumsy in parking lots and traffic, but can't be beat doing 85mph across lots of miles.  The S is a lot more confidence inspiring in the twisties, but can still consume hundreds of miles in relative comfort.

Not only can you get OEM windscreens from BMW, Parabellum makes a very nice one as well.  Personally, I like the looks and protection of the Parabellum more than the stock unit.

Thanks to all that replied. The seller contacted me and lowered the price by $100 so I'm getting the bike tomorrow after work. I almost never do any Interstate or long distance riding so I think the K75S will be a good fit for me. Time to make room in the garage. I hope my three Airheads understand.

Supply them with contraception, you definitely don't want them interbreeding. You could possibly end up with a 3 cylinder airhead. :yikes:

I assure you, they won't care if the neglect is intentional or not.

So $900 for the red 91 S in the top picture. IMHO, that is a red hot deal, no pun intended.

One other attribute of the K75 S, is that it does not allow engine heat up to the rider, as intensely as the K100 RT.

I thought it was a good deal also.I thought $1000 was a good deal.I never made an offer to the seller.I contacted him about the bike he was originally asking $1500 for. I told him I would think on it as I was looking at a couple of others. When he messaged me that he would take $1000,then $900 I told him I'd take it. I told him I'd pick it up the next day.Talked to him on the phone set up the time etc. A few hors later he messaged me and said he couldn't do it today due to a family emergency. I haven't heard from him since. The for sale ad is removed and he doesn't answer any messages or the phone. I only called and messaged him once.I figured that was enough. So I'll wait a few more days and consider it gone.
