Motogadget m-lock install on K75S
« on: April 28, 2019, 06:52:00 AM »
Hi Everyone

Hope all is going well.  Here in UK the weather is improving: to allow us more miles in reasonable comfort.

I'm having trouble installing a Motogadget M-Lock.  I understand the instructions and have wired the m-lock to the bike but it will not activate the electrics.  I believe it's a quirk with the BMW's own relay setup.
Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks in Advance

Take a look at this post. Is this how you've wired your unit?

Thanks for speedy response. I had not been able to find anything on the search on the platform.
I'll re-wire it that way in a couple of days and let you know how I get on.
Many Thanks.

Many Thanks Laitch for the wiring diagram.  The install worked!!!  And, as you said; So easy.

I had originally tried to install the m-lock near the relay box under the seat and had evidently chosen the wrong feed wire from the electrics.
But; installing it in the position of the original ignition key I had the correct wires to connect to.

One more question: the m-lock on my 1991 K75S is working without the motogadget capacitor that I thought I might need.  The K75S of mine starts first time every time and doesn’t appear to draw down the battery much in doing so, which might otherwise cause the m-lock to "drop-out".
So; Can anybody comment on whether the motogadget capacitor is needed or not on the K75S?

If your definition of "need" is essential to allow operation, the capacitor doesn't seem to be needed now, does it? If it ever is needed, you'll know where to find it, probably. Keep the battery in good condition.

Is your moto's engine idling in the shop, or running on the road?

I guess you're right about the capacitor not needing to be installed.  The m-lock works without it on the dozen or more tests I've carried out, so far.

Now: I can get an MOT (UK annual vehicle check) on Thursday and get some miles on the new Maxxis Promax Street tyres I just fitted.

Next job will be to change the oil and filters.

You are the one who decided not to install it. Give yourself some credit. :giggles  Keep us in the loop.
