Turn signal brightness
« on: April 20, 2019, 08:52:26 PM »
It was a nice sunny day today, and it got me thinking.

The turn signals look a little dim in the sunlight. Is there something people use to make them brighter? A type of bulb, LED, what have you.

I don't really want to replace the stock housings, I like them as they are.

Also, mine seem like they flash real slow. What is the correct flash rate for these bikes?

Incandescent bulbs dim as they age. Replacement might be appropriate. Check the inside surfaces of the lenses for dust. 60–120 flashes per minute is the accepted rate. All turn signals should flash at the same rate.

Pull the bulbs out and replace them.  If they're original, there is a better than even chance that metal from the filament has "cooked off" and coated the inside of the bulb with a reflective film that can drastically cut down on the amount of light that gets out.

While you're in there, clean off the inside of the lenses.  They can get dirty and reduce light output as well.
