K75S for sale D.C.
« on: April 02, 2019, 06:01:02 PM »
https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/mcy/6856139306.html

Not mine, but owned by a guy who rides Bimmer's. He specifically mentions splines in the ad, a good sign. Pricey though at 4k, and it's not even Yoonique.

Way too many miles for the price.  Spline photos missing.  Busted up Engine Spoiler.

Might be a good deal for one of our grossly overpaid federal government employees in the home office down in D.C..   They always seem to have lots of cash despite all the bellyaching about how underpaid they are.

as a recently retired federal government employee who worked in DC....was that grossly incorrect statement necessary?

I'm sorry, but If I recall, the average income in the D.C. area is about 2.5 times the national average.  The four wealthiest counties in the entire U.S. are surrounding D.C., and yet in most people's daily life they cannot find one thing that is "Made in D.C.".

https://www.fedsmith.com/2016/06/12/average-fed-salary-in-dc-tops-112000-lowest-state-about-66000/

https://www.thebalancecareers.com/average-salary-information-for-us-workers-2060808

It is a fact that the salary and benefits for equivalent occupations is substantially higher for government employees than in the private sector.

https://fee.org/articles/a-look-at-pay-for-federal-employees-compared-to-their-private-sector-counterparts/

That may explain the high asking price, and that the seller will probably get it.

the value of that s is about 2.5 times higher than here in chee country... and it was proally bought with foreign money anyway...

for these reasons and because it has a likely russian made rack on the iconic 22... i would like to see a team of unelected bureaucrats appoint a special prosocuter to investigate this yoonique s...

. . . our grossly overpaid federal government employees in the home office down in D.C..   They always seem to have lots of cash despite all the bellyaching about how underpaid they are.. . . and yet in most people's daily life they cannot find one thing that is "Made in D.C."
Politicians and lobbyists are the ones bellyaching about government employee wages—regardless of whether their position is that wages are too high or too low.

Government employees—like most other employees—just keep on working despite the background noise and they—like most employees elsewhere—aren't about to turn down wage increases, especially considering the cost of living in D.C..

A manufacturer of goods used in daily life will likely choose not to park a manufacturing facility in a location where real estate and cost of living tends to be double digits higher than elsewhere and where transportation congestion is nightmarish. Manufacturers tend to leave such places when they are able.

I'm with j o on this one. They'll be in Kansas next. I can almost hear the zing of whetstones on pitchforks.

Well, we still have a place in San Diego, and I see little difference in the cost of living here in the DC area. ;) You do give up the surf.

Funny, I was actually thinking of Marshall when posting, as he can find room for 1 more project.

Sidebar: This Brick is notable as having been ridden in DC while Comey and Lynch were plotting the "insurance policy" with Struck and Page who were banging each other behind Bob's BMW at that time. The lower fairing was severely damaged as a result of a video being played by a Los Angeles amateur producer portraying Allah in poor light, sparking the riot at Benghazi, and sudden disappearance of NOS Iconic Top Cases. Just think about that!

A subplot is the fairing was used to hide "El Chapo", and the new owner will get a "gratis" favor from the cartel remnants.

Not a bad looking S model.

I admit, I am new to K's, and am wondering how prices for these bikes stack up?

Is the mileage and general condition the main factor that effects the prices. Or, are certain years preferable to others?  Or are there other factors that I am not aware of?

Inquiring minds...

4k is about tops for a pristine low mileage bike, good examples can be had for 2K but prices and condition are all over the place.  Unfortunately, K's have become cheap enough that many fall victim to the amateur customizer, hot rodder, cafe wannabe, GS wannabe, or noise & chrome crowd.  After they're finished these versatile all-around machines are pretty much reduced to scrap value.

It's definitely more than tops out here in the northwest.  My 75S has been for sale for $4k for months with no luck. Beautiful cosmetically.  Loads of money recently spent bringing it up to top notch mechanical condition.  Good news is, I really don't care if it sells.  But if it does, I'll be frantically looking for an RT.

Wow, sounds like a lot of motorcycle for only $2500. Someone got a great buy there.  So, it seems like K75 S models are excellent values.

They are excellent values if they have been well-maintained like Gryph's. It isn't unusual for them to be sold for 20% or more less than the price first listed so patience, circumstance, negotiating skill and goodwill fit into the process.

So, this one might be considered a little "overpriced"?  :)

https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mcd/d/las-vegas-1987-bmw-k75-finance-it-with/6856768429.html
Maybe, but this one can be delivered and financed, and most importantly, is not saddled with US emissions, which can be uncomfortable on a long ride.

Not sure what to make of that seller, he mashed every keyword for used car sales into the description.  And the price is $400 more that my S cost brand new with bags back in '86.  Yeah, he's overpriced by about 3K

Naked gets a bit of a Premium, so I would say maybe as high as $3200 on a very good day.  But then, photo #9 shows some very obvious damage to the instrument cluster's glass, which in my mind puts the rest of the cosmetics in question.

Can anyone confirm that the K75 badge on the tail cowl is correct?  Did any K75's actually come from the factory with the early K100 seat and battery covers.  Never saw that seat on another stock brick.  What is that round thing above the right side footpeg plate?  A VIN would help to see what that bike is supposed to be.

Was this bike maybe a factory prototype???  In 1987???

It's being sold as a European model so styling differences might be from that market. I think the round thing is a tax disk holder for UK or EU MOT requirements like in the attached photo.

Found it on the Mecum Auctions Las Vegas site where it was sold on January 24th.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0119-347759/1987-bmw-k75/

Frame no. 0113769K75C

Would like to hear from one of our European members as to the bodywork.  I just went through a ton of Google K75 images, and this is the only one with those body parts.

P.S. judging from the photos I've seen today, there can't be more than a couple dozen bricks left that haven't been looped.

This thing might have been a hybrid. I went through probably .83 ton of images. The battery cover looks like the K75 police bike style in the image attached. The radiator cover looks RT style. The tail and seat look pre-'86.
