BSK's Radiator made by RC Racing
« on: February 24, 2019, 05:13:43 PM »
Hi everyone: I've been eyeing this radiator made by RC Racing, which you can now buy from BSK, for months.

http://www.bskspeedworks.co.uk/k-radiator.html

Do I need it? No! Do I want it? Absolutely!!!

My question is this: If I buy the radiator without the thermostat housing, which is 100 dollars cheaper, will the radiator fan still come on at the appropriate temperature or is a thermostat needed to induce a signal for the fan?

The radiator has aluminium construction with a 40mm single core, and claims increasing coolant capacity and improving cooling. So I was just wondering if I could buy my dream part, save money AND have improved cooling?

If anyone has had any experience, or knows anyone that has yet to use one that would be great.

Thanks,
Ray V.

greetings...

if you gonna ride the driftless april to november you gonna want a thermostat...

if you gonna trailor to road america for summer track days you may not need a thermostat...

thermostat is mechanical... not electronic... not needed for signal... the jetronic will see temp from sensor...

i ran a few weeks without a thermostat in 80s and 90s and 100s temps with no noticable changes in performance...

id go with oe 3 core if i wanted a different radiator... still be a roaster... its a character and spiritual builder...

Coveting is spiritual weakness.

The OEM radiator works well in all-around riding circumstances. The thermostat allows oil to warm up sooner by causing coolant to warm up sooner.

Racing engines need improved cooling because they are being run hard and fast from the get-go and warm up quickly. Although racing engine warm up quickly, many racers will preheat their engines coolant by riding or other means to raise the oil temperature before they begin racing.

Your coveted radiator is also desirable for competition because it likely lowers the weight of the competitive moto. You could get the same effect with your moto by shedding a few pounds of personal weight. :giggles

Does your bike have a rear frame loop?

No.  Get the radiator because the bike doesn't get used enough to need it.

If still intact, save your money for something useful, like fuel or a new tior.

Johnny: Thanks for the info. It's good to know that if I decide to buy it everything will work as normal.

Laitch: Duly noted about shedding a few pounds. Just imagine if I loose weight AND buy the radiator! Also.... I think the whole 'coveting' thing deals more so with wanting something that belongs to someone else; "Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's." Deut. 5:21 So I think I'm ok with 'coveting' a radiator!

TMG: My bike does have a rear frame loop; although it is about 6 inches shorter! But I do intend to ride it enough to circulate antifreeze and cause the fan to turn on once in a while. I'm good for fuel and tyres, so why not splurge a little if I have it? Just like giving the wife a little extra to go and buy herself something pretty. Does she need it? Probably not! But it makes her happy, which in turn makes me happy!

Thanks everyone for the info!

What's the difference between an Aluminum Radiator and a Golden Calf?

Ans: None, they both end with an eternity of woe.

Thank you, and please remember to tip your waitress.

It is unoriginal to convert scripture into support for one's desires. Let 'er rip.

Absolutely! I was there last year. Was able to sell quite a bit of extra parts to fund my project. Will be going again this year, but only as a buyer on SUN-day, weather permitting!

Cya there!

Hi Johnny: Hope you checked out the weather before making the trip. They said it would snow today, but I didn't expect to wake up to this! Looks like the roads are good, but I have at least 2" of snow on my car.

Hope some of the good stuff will still be there tomorrow! May see you there.
