Proper Paint Code for my '94 K75
« on: October 15, 2018, 12:43:59 PM »
Greetings,

I am looking at a winter project to paint the aftermarket fairing on my '94 K75. The bike is painted a dark green. The paint code under the seat states "970" (Classic Black Metallic). When I look at the 94 brochure, the only green offered that year was on the K110LT, 683 Pine Green Metallic. In fact, looking at previous and forward years, green was not offered on the K75. Should I assume that my bike is painted in 683 Pine Green Metallic? The brochure color pic is not the best to compare.

I am by no means an expert on BMW paint colors.

I think there was a version of black that had a green tone to it.  It is possible though that your bike has a repaint in a different color.  A good way to check is to remove the tank and look under the insulation.  I can't think of many painters who would remove the insulation to paint under it.

If it is a repaint, or even if it is original, take a part like a battery cover to an automotive  paint dealer to have it matched.  Those guys do it every day and have done some amazing matches for me.

Thank you for the input! The rear seat frame/rear seat extension housing is painted green, with the emissions label and paint code sticker overtop. If a repaint, I wouldn't think they would install a new emissions label AND a paint code label.

I am all for exploring an automotive paint dealer to try and match. I believe there is a PPG dealer in my area. Just surprises me there is a mismatch between the sticker and the bike.

I have painted a couple of bricks now and have no trouble masking off those labels so the paint looks perfect.  It's what I would expect from any pro paint job.

Under the tank insulation...?     well, that's another story.  That's where I would look to be sure.
