Howdy
« on: October 14, 2018, 06:48:04 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I picked up a 1988 K75C the other day, that looks like it has been outside for AWHILE. It needs a thorough cleaning, a new seat, a new headlight lens, a new RH front turn signal assembly, new battery, and is missing the right side battery cover. The fuel tank looks clean, which is nice. It has definitely been down on the right side. Tires are pretty new though! I'm excited to get it road worthy and cleaned up. Of course we just got 3" of snow last night so it will be a good winter project. I'll definitely be availing myself of everyone's knowledge! I posted a more in depth write up in The Motobrick Workshop.

Welcome!  Hope you enjoy the restoration process and the finished product.  These are amazing, under-appreciated machines, quite possibly the best BMW ever made.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. My current theory is that someone lowsided it, swore off motorcycles, and then let it fester in an impound lot, where someone bought it at auction. I'm a little nervous about the mileage since the odometer wasn't really working and the final drive spline/drive shaft condition, but I'll pull those this winter. It still has a lot of (what I assume are) green assembly marks.

....I'm a little nervous about the mileage since the odometer wasn't really working....

I remember reading about estimating mileage by brake pedal wear on K's, basically by how many of the little pyramids had worn down, I forget the particulars. I had to replace mine after it snapped off in a lay down, this one has about 100K miles on it, you may be able to extrapolate you mileage analyzing the photo and yours.
