I am looking for a set of matte black system 3 saddlebag lids in excellent condition. I don't need locks or badges. I would prefer to trade for them but I will entertain all offers. I have much to trade. Email me. Thanks, Mike  mw074@comcast.net

Those are the ones where the locks face out, correct?

How pristine are we talking here?  I seem to recall having a couple with what are probably easy to fix scuffs on tragkorbs where the back is pretty beat up.  I can post some photos on Monday or Tuesday.  If it's really important, I can do some cosmetic prettifying on them for you.

I've managed to restore the lids on the Type 3 cases to pretty well pristine. Start off with wet and dry increasing the fineness then cutting compound and an electric buff followed by Meguiars Plastix. I've also used my 6" bench grinder fitted with a new cotton mop and ultra fine buffing compound. Once buffed I finish off with a protectant, I use Surf Cities Black Max but there are others.
Regards Martin.

I just mask off the rubber bits and the badges/reflectors, scuff with 220, a coat or two of high build primer, sand with 320, glaze the stuff that the primer didn't fill, reprime and sand with 320.

Finish with matte black rattle can with Matte Clear wheel paint and they look brand new.  Takes two evenings, most of which is waiting for the glaze to fully cure.

Thanks Guys. I have repaired and painted many sets of K bike bags over the years with great success. If they were going to be mine, that is the route that I would go. But since it is a gift I want to go first rate.
