Aging lurker and slow breather, finally figured out DOS doesn't give access to the Interweb, so now sporting Win98!

Got a great bargain on a "acquaintance of a friend's wife" type deal, as the PO was downsizing for retirement. Out the door price of $850.00, which leaves a bushel of clams for reviving parts. Runs great, although you can tell it was not maintained in the fashion of which she was accustomed. Have all the goodies with Belly Pan, Tragkorb, front signal lens', etc. In short, I think she'll be burpin' and chirpin' in a sneeze or two, as I go down the "to look at" list.

Hmmmm, maybe a visit to Summit Point, WV in the near future :)

Nice find - same as I paid for mine, but I think yours has had an easier life. Looks like you have a Staintune exhaust on there. Some like them, some don't. When I found out they made less HP than stock, I went back to a stock unit, but you may like the sound it makes and end up keeping it. Let us know how you make progress.

Stokester/Barry/Beemuker: it's pretty consistent to get "thumbs-up" or at least longing stares from drivers as I Jetson down the road .. it could, however, be the buttless chaps. I'll go with the "cool" label.

Marshall: SP sounds great. Was just there, but for a bicycle Time Trial. Stayed at the Motel6 Charlestown, super inexpensive.

Chaos: Yeah, the abandonment may well have been due to a concerted effort by the Vaterland to perfect Kinder Eggs toys.

Trispark: thanks, still working on bit's. The Staintune is new to me, as I've always preferred tunable Supertrapp. Hard to better BMW R&D though. I did get the YSS dialed in. Here's a pic from yesterday, post ride along So. Maryland rollers.

First minor glitch.  The cancellation switch just stopped working, so now I have to plan turns waaaaay in advance to have the blinking stop just after the turn. A winter "sort-out" project with fuel lines. I just topped off the air in the tires to 28/36psi, so wonder if that's the cause ;)

I shut mine off using my thumb. Are you indicating that doesn't work but auto-cancellation does work? Using auto-cancellation in traffic can create the impression that you're turning when all you're doing is waiting for an automatic cancelling function. That can cause somebody to turn in front of you thinking that you aren't intending to go straight. The auto-cancellation function works the best during high-speed freeway passing and exiting.

As far as air pressure, 32/36 would be more like it. I run Sportec Klassics at 38-40/42.

Cheers! The thumb switch isn't working, which I agree is a real hassle, and I'm reverting to arm signals, but 90% of the Maryland drivers have no idea what my waving arms are for and just wave back.

I've been fiddling with the tire pressures to see what feels planted with the Shinko's, 10wt fork oil and the YSS set-up. Getting close, but still nowhere near what the SR500 could handle in turns...but that was 200lbs less and super thin.

Any ideas on where to start looking for the thumb switch culprit?

I had the same issue with my K75 that I recently rescued off Cape Cod....I took out the screw out that splits apart the switch assembly and sprayed the two halves with electrical contact cleaner as I moved the switches, works great now. I think they just get a little corrosion on them when they sit.

BTW: What's the car under the cover in the first pic? ....first thought was Delorean but now I think I see a bit of early Honda CRX...hmmmmm?

Thanks for the tip on getting the thumb switch working again, I'll try cleaning it this long weekend.
The car is a 1981 DMC-12, great guess! Treated myself to it after grad, traveled a lot, and kept it in a storage facility that knows cars. In short, it's a 36k mile time capsule. Currently going over rubber bits, and redoing the interior for timed rally with the wife, motor/trans runs great to 88mph.
