Oil over fill/ poor girl mileage
« on: July 04, 2018, 01:06:21 PM »
Have new to me K75, 12,600K. I took it for a shake down ride, about 100 miles. Found the mileage was about 32 mpg. Started to change fluids, and the oil was over filled, maybe 1/2 a guart. Would this be a cause of poor mileage??
Have fork seal leaking, and there were no bolts in the top triple clamps!! :yow, may be cause of slight weave in grooved pavement. But biased tires can also do this. To used to radial tires. Phil

Doubt if the extra oil caused the poor mileage, probably needs some Techron and some good yee-hawing to clean out the injectors.  Which bolts were missing, the forward facing ones just hold the dashboard on, the rearward ones actually clamp the fork tubes.  Weaving on grooved pavement usually has more to do with tread pattern and wear, but all my bikes have done it to some degree.

The rearward facing bolts, I think they were forgotten when the Rifle fairing was put on, as there are upper fairing bolts just below the triple tree. I have installed new bolts. There are some strange things about this bike, looks great, and very good for 12K, but the tool kit is worn quite a bit? Maybe it was replaced with an older one.

How worn is the paint inside the tail cowl?

Rough roads will wear out the tool roll pretty quickly if it's not padded with some rags.  I think part of the reason they added ABS was to put the brain in the cowl to hold the tool kit from bouncing around so much.

My bikes have a mind of their own on rain grooves.
