Newbie from Down under
« on: May 14, 2018, 09:40:55 AM »
G'day from Australia,
i have just purchased a blue 09/1993 K1100LT
(according to the vin check) but compliance plated '94 with 97,000 kms on the clock.

I have just stepped off an 05 Honda ST1300 after 5 years and 120,000 kilometers.

Prior to the STeed i was on an ex police K1100 for about 6 months but was lured to the Honda's sleek lines  :dunno .

I will add some pics next week as it's in transit from the other end of the country.

Hi Martin, i'm out in the Redlands.

I purchased it from Melbourne with no Rego/roady, owned by a old boy that had a stroke and it should be delivered next monday.
Here's a few shots from the ad :

Looks in good nick, but if it's been left sitting for a while check and change fluids. Rubber parts can deteriorate and need to be checked. Take a good look inside the fuel tank as the pump mounting damper can turn into Vegemite. The hose inside the tank needs to be rated as EFI submersible. Bricks seem to be getting a bit thin on the ground, locally I know of six not going and one possibly two going. Although I did spot a mid blue RT locally in Lawnton yesterday that I have not previously seen.

What range can i expect out of the 22 litre tank ?
I used to get around 550 k's out of the 29 litres on the Honda in ideal conditions.I'm heading off to my ST club National Rally at Mackay in August so she'll get a good going over prior to departure. The bloke i use down at Capalaba for the roady is extremely knowledgeable and fairly priced. The one thing i will miss is the MC cruise control.

Can't help with the 1100 mileage, but driving like a LOL I managed to get 400 K's out of a 21 litre tank on my 75. Cruise control can be had either mechanical or electronic . I did look at it but was a bit pricey, I manage pretty well with a homemade throttle lock.

The 1st 1300 i had i used a screw in type bar end throttle lock :

The 2nd 1300 had the full electronic MC cruise set up :

I have an old slip on plastic cramp buster i will use for the time being.
Fuel won't be an issue heading up the slab to Mackay obviously but it will be interesting to see how much i can squeeze out of her.

There is a hole under the throttle perch where you can fit a OEM friction throttle lock. There are two types that I have seen, one is a knurled screw, the other has a toggle. I had the knurled screw on mine but found it awkward and fiddly, hence the homemade one. I find mine is a lot easier to use, just activate on or off with my thumb. I also think it is a bit safer as you can either flick it off or just throttle back.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the info Laitch

The bike got delivered this morning with a flat battery and an empty fuel tank. Yay.

It is actually metallic pine green (683) and came with a sheepskin seat cover and seat rain cover, headlight protector, touch up paint kit, full tool roll and a factory flat tyre kit.

The radio turns on but i suspect i need a code to access the features as i can't change station or AM/FM.

I will add pics when i can get it out of the garage to the top of the driveway .

I Charged the battery last night and put it back in the bike, then topped the tank up.
It now cranks over when i connect the positive terminal all by itself, minus the key in the ignition or the starter being pressed. Interesting.

Jammed starter relay is a known problem, caused by trying to start with a low battery charge. Can sometimes be rectified by rapping on the side of the relay, or alternatively pulling apart the relay and cleaning the points. You can fit a battery isolation switch into the earth lead to stop it cranking right down. I blew the side out of a battery when I first got mine, when I attempted a start with a low battery. I couldn't shut it down the starter kept on cranking overheated the battery until the side blew out. When this occurs removing the battery lead either at the battery or where it mounts onto the gearbox post haste will stop it.

That's one way of dealing with being stuck in Toowoomba

It is a nice spot though. The ST club had their national rally in t'wba in 2015. Some great riding to be had in the area .
