Just trying to make it more suitable for my riding style.
Can you describe your style?
  • Along the Ridley in Vermont.
  • 1995 K75 89,000 miles
I wept because I had no radials until I met a man who had no splines.

You could rustle up bar backs, or maybe some bars that get close the the same position, maybe from a K75C. Taking the fairing off isn't going to do much for your riding position.
I'm not much younger myself and am lucky to find the K75S riding position near perfect for long days in the saddle. At about 6' with a 32" inseam with a very long reach this is the riding position I like so much I had to find another K75S. :riding:   As has been mentioned you may want to first try some K75C bars and then maybe some bar backs if you are looking for a more upright riding position and then a different windscreen if the buffeting is too much.

The "C" style bars are a good option instead of bar backs.

Have a look at this it might help in choosing bars. You can put in various model Bricks and change the parameters on the bars etc. http://cycle-ergo.com/

It's probably best just to sell it while it still can be asserted that it has been in professional storage recently.  :2thumbup:

Just sayin...

I see you're looking for an aero screen and bar backs. Before you go on a hunt and fork over cash for a solution that may not work...

I have both and having both means the wind will be directed right into your face if you're 5'8" to 6' You'd likely need a laminar lip on the top of the screen. I'd use a shorter screen to put the wind on your chest or pass on the bar backs with a taller screen. That will place your upper body a little lower. I have a Shoei modular helmet and it whistles like crazy. Your screen would have to be stupidly high to solve this issue. The wind would be better on your chest and have a helmet that's really good at wind management.

So...
Lower screen with a bar back. Wind hits Chest
Higher screen without a bar back. Wind *might* go over your head.
Both: Get a laminar lip or equivalent. Wind *might* go over your head.

Maybe other people have a different experience or advice. This particular version of a bike isn't going to be easy to mitigate wind but that combination may not help.
Exactly. I have already been through this. I tried taking the barbacks off [uncomfortable for me] Got the tallest screen I could buy [ still wasn't tall enough] . Ended up cutting down the tall ws so It's shorter than stock, still wind noise, but the wind hits my chest, instead of the buffeting noise hitting me right at the helmet.

Being 69 I read this thread with interest :).
Just buying a 75S and original position wouldn't suit me either.

Adam I have had my 75s for twenty years and as I've matured ( gotten older) I've progressively rotated the bars up and back. The last mod I did was to space the bars up 1" and back 1". I am quite comfortable with it and I don't foresee having to modify it further. Before you change over the bars try adjusting them. The clutch and throttle perches can also be adjusted for angle. Also have a look at this site http://cycle-ergo.com/
