18" spoked wheels on a K100
« on: February 12, 2018, 02:17:46 PM »
Hi everyone.
(I've been searching around for this info, so apologies if this has already been covered and I haven't come across it yet. Most searches seem to reference a 17" rear or R1150rt 5-spoke wheel. Not what I'm after... )

I'm currently building a K100 cafe/fighter style project. One of the things I'm trying to achieve is a spoked 18" front and rear wheel.
Front wheel I'm not too worried about as I have a GSXR 1000 fork and Cognito already make a compatible spoked hub etc.

My concern is the rear. From what I have read (please correct me if I'm wrong) a R1150GS/1100GS hub will bolt up to the K100, but requires the same (GS) caliper and disk to work. If so, this is great, however, this is a 17" wheel. Will it be as 'simple' as switching out the 17" rim for an 18" of some sort with the same spoke count and re-lacing with a longer spoke? Anyone done this or know someone who can do this? Will it then clear the caliper?

I appreciate any insight, tips or suggestions anyone might have.

Just use the 17 inch you can fit a bigger tyre and you can’t really see. If you have one made there’s no reason it shouldn’t work . If you fit an 18” you would need to recalibrate your speedo. You could buy an 18 spoked rim from another manufacturer and have it re spokes to fit the BMW.
