Engine Rebuild Averted
« on: December 19, 2017, 08:11:21 AM »

What’s up my Motobrick Bretheren! I’m posting this up to tell a scary/odd story about my rebuild that had me speechless. Recently, I developed an awful clanking noise on the rebuild. The change in tempo of the noise was spot-on with engine speed, and everything (stethoscope, block of wood to the ear/engine, ear to engine) was pointing to the right side of the block. The pros told me I had either thrown a crankshaft connecting rod cap, or developed a real bad case of timing chain slap. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found the culprit... The fuel pump pressure line slapping the filler cap moisture drain pipe. Harmonics? Either way, I dodged an engine rebuild. A couple of zip-ties and we’re back in business. Note: These are the pressure hoses being distributed with many of the new aftermarket fuel pump kits.

Wow, I have  a set of those nylon hoses from EuroMotoElectrics, but haven't used them yet.

Inside of your tank looks pretty psychedelic.

EME is who supplied my fuel pump. (Hands down, some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced), and the looks are complements of the Redkote. I had those pinholes on both sides of the bottom of the tank. Some said weld them. Some said coat the tank. I did both.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet  Rarely it seems anyone ever rebuilds an enjin on tranny on these old K's, the drivetrain seems to outlive the rest of the bike and there are plenty of cheap good units on ebay and such.
