Seats are interchangeable if the hinges are compatible, or they and pertinent to that seat. OEM seats will interchange between relevant heights, high seat for high seat, low seat for low seat. this excludes the very early ones with the built in grab handle. Some aftermarket fibreglass seats used OEM hinges, but I'm not sure if they all did.

Correct Martin. Seat design changed with the MY1985.  After that, seats are interchangeable through the K1100 as you describe.

Called corbin, the rep said you have to use the OEM hinges, so I should be good to go with it.
