Roundel stickers?
« on: August 07, 2017, 03:28:20 AM »
I've seen them advertised, but always for R models. Are all 70mm badges the same?
The sticker came off one side but the badge is still there. Is there a part number for just the sticker?

Moto bins https://motobins.co.uk/bmw-parts.php? I wonder if I can get commission. Probably Beemer Boneyard in the US or any OEM supplier.

I found an eBay seller that has 70mm badges for $15.  He sells them for BMW wheels.  I will try to find the link and post it later.

Any 70mm BMW roundel with self-adhesive backing will fit, so you could pick them up from various sources -- BMW dealership (automotive  or Motorraad), Ebay, Bob's BMW, Motobins, etc.

Roundel part numbers are available on Snowbum's BMW history page, towards the bottom of the page.

Thanks,
I just ordered 46-63-7-686-746 off eBay. Only thing which worries me is that this appears to have silver at the edge. The one which came off has none, it's black all the way to the edge.

Nothing like jumping right off into buyer's remorse.

It probably does have a silver perimeter. That's not a bad thing, is it? Would it interfere with symmetry on one side or would it make one side bling-heavy?

The "official" roundel on your bike should have a silver border around it.  If yours doesn't have that border it is probably a Chi-Com knock off that was intentionally done that way to avoid the BMW trademark police.  The ones in the link are correct.

Where these roundels differ is in the double sided backing.  The "official"(meaning ridiculously priced) roundel has a different shape to the adhesive backing.  If it doesn't match the existing roundel on the other side of the tank I would blow the extra 10 bucks for a pair.  You will still be more than 12 bucks ahead, not counting postage on the "official" one.

I am curious about these adhesive roundels.  Do they replace the roundel on the tank entirely or do you attach them on top of a damaged roundel on the tank.  Thx.

They replace the existing roundel completely.  Take the old one off, clean up any residue and stick on the new one.  Sometimes using a piece of dental floss as a saw to cut through the underlying adhesive works well.

The one I got is as large as the complete roundel. I thought I ordered a sticker to replace just the logo on what is still stuck to the tank after the logo came off. OK, but not as thick as what's on the other side.
Perhaps the roundels on both sides of my tank are knock-offs?

This is what it looks like without the logo.

This is what the complete roundel looks like.

I have no idea if these are "correct", but what I bought is not a direct replacement.
These look more like the roundels which are only available from German sellers on eBay for about 3X more $

I know the US postage system is a shadow of its former glories, but the postage overseas is horrendous.

Don't sweat the postage from the US. You've got China and the UK to help you.  :yes

That doesn't look like the badges on any of my bikes.  Looks like a bimmer wheel roundel.

I have no further advice.

Glue them on. There is a choice of adhesives for you that are up to the task. The metallic badges on the old bikes were screwed into the tanks. You've got it easy.  :yes

I got one 46-63-7-686-746 and one ...569 from the link supplied by Gryphon. The 569 is a bit more 3D, but there are small air bubbles under the top clear layer. The 746 has a thin foam adhesive backing, the 569 has no foam, just adhesive. Time will tell which lasts longer.
I cleaned off the old adhesive with alcohol, scuffed the surface with 220 grit, and cleaned with alcohol again. Looks good.
Thank you all!
