So, Just got back from vacation, and have managed to spend a few days worth spannering and such on the K.
Really finding the whole process quite therapeutic actually. Its a good escape to get away from the daily grind. Just chucking on some music and getting the hands dirty. :2thumbup:
Anyway, Progress wise... I have:
-done a full fluids change and service (All filters)
-Replaced all rubber fuel lines and the rubber breather hose.
-Drained the tank and took out all of the pipes and pump etc (Inside actually looked very clean indeed) Hurrah for daily driven bikes and good fuel circulation!
-De-tabbed the tank and started to filler and sand it back.
-Dissasebled the front end ready for fork service and seal changes.
-Brakes are all off and ready for full service too (They will get seals changed, new pads, paint and braided hoses)
-Started making a seat pan, and working out how I an going to make it secure yet removable. I have currently gone for a captive nut solution with nylock nuts at front and a simple slide clamp for the rear. May need to go for a solid fixing at the back, butt I will see what vibration and movement is like after.
- Also decided not to go for the standard cafe rear, and will go for more of a padded tracker-brat look seat.
-Battery will likely go back where it was but I am going to use a much smaller unit if possible.
-Decided that I didn't like the matte black paint and fully dissasebled and masked off the engine again. Then coated it in gloss black engine paint, along with the swing arm etc. Everything got a good going over with a wire brush too.
-Wheels have gone for powder coating and I am currently working out what tyres will fit (it seems that the wheels on the bike are an odd size and finding the right size tyres in the tread pattern I want is proving rather difficult)
-I have used my Haynes manual to fully label the wiring harness and work out what goes where. (MY OCD was kicking in something rotten that day.) Still unsure if I am going to use the OEM controls or if I end up going for a M-unit. I think for the first go I will keep it standard and replace it further down the line if I feel the need.
Next stop is to finish up the tank sanding and primering. Then get it painted up properly.
Also need to work out what Lamp I am going to go for, and also tackle she whole "aftermarket gauge" problem. Still unsure how I am going to sort that. More reading up I expect.
Still really enjoying this project and if all goes to plan It will be finished by spring next year... It being Sweden I feel like the Fall is drawing in already...
